Sorry, I think I formulated that a bit poorly. I didn't really mean that we need "one" site for everything, just that I'd rather upload music on a site that focus on the music and not everything around it as much. Also that there's no need to pick one camp when you can join them all. On 8bc my single purpose was to spread my own music and listen/comment on similar music. I hope that made more sense!?

Writing on my phone and I hate it :C

Well, I feel that we need a site that actually focus on MUSIC and not necessarily on all the technical stuff that seems to be going on here. Not that I dislike it, this just isn't the place I listen to music. I do like to read about all the new material in the "release section" on CM and what people think about it (one of the stronger appeals to this site). A well of knowledge concerning usage of chip-utilities and all that comes with. So it obviously has it's pros and cons as well.

I also think there is some elitist stuff going on here and to say it's NOT would be a lie imo. It's kind of inevitable hmm And why do people have to fling shit all over the place??? That bothers me too I guess...

I think that one of the real problems with 8bc was that that many people felt "overlooked" and not appreciated enough for their effort. I still think as a music site it was the pinnacle of VGM/chiptune music and this was probably due to it's great variety of users and types of music. It was fast and easy to use...and everyone could play! I can't really blame Sam for trying to recreate that. I really belive that µCollective can be something similar in the future! So, combine all 3, CM/µC/NC for the optimal VGM experiance. No one is gonna take your job, it's a hobby! Hope I didn't miss anything...

I think Sam is doing a great job and I don't understand why some people seem pissy about it!? When it gets the face lift and some more users it's gonna be perfect...Hope to see some of you over there!

If nothing else, weeklybeats has helped me practice coming up with a lot of ideas really quickly, and then finding a good one to roll with for an hour just to see what happens.

Yeah, that's the only reason why I would torture myself doing something like weeklybeats smile It would be awesome to just throw something together and roll with it.  It's probably benificial in many ways to do something under time pressure and a good way to practice music. Well, after I'm done with my current project I'll consider it again I think.

Personally, I think it's worth it. I definitely do not like pumping out material quickly myself. I like to believe that at least with my own music there's a strong reasoning behind every single note and sound-if it takes a long time to develop that than I'll wait and keep working towards that feeling. However, this leads to a long time of not putting out material. It's a double edged sword. However, I would much rather put out material that I am 100% behind in every way versus having something out that I would always second guess when I listen to it again. But that's just my neuroticism talking. I've done the RPM Challenge before and I'd really like to try something like the Weekly Beats thing, but something about that just terrifies me at the moment. I need to muster up the courage to just do it one day.

I feel pretty much exactly like you do on this subject (especially about the being "behind your own music" part). I'm also my own worst
critic which means that I'm looking for errors/dislikes all the time...pretty time consuming and exhausting :C I'm also terrified of trying something like an OHC/weeklybeats style of writing...What if my mind goes blank, hahaha. All in all, I'm a pretty damn slow producer I guess ( that's atleast what I understand comparing myself to others). I spend anything between a week to a year on a song, or even longer. Of course not in effective writing time but as a way of digest what to do next with the piece...I don't know, something like that!?

Edit: To answer the question btw, haha. Yes, I think it's worth spending some time on songs. I want to belive that people can tell if I put some effort into it or not. Over and out!

Ohh WOW! It's almost unbelievable that Dendy could yank the chain of a whole nation for so long. I find it utterly amazing and disturbing at the same time. Russia had some serious trolls, that's for sure.

Thank's for sharing this fantastic piece of gaming history with us Shiru, I enjoyed it thoroughly!!!

Well said, it always comes down to the musician and not the software he uses.

It's pretty angry in many ways and very well produced as well. This don't really make me think of VGM at all (no offense) but I guess there's very few things about this that would be considered "chip" or "videogame" related if you ask me. Then again, there's a very fine line between what's considered to be VGM and what's considered to be electronic music. Composition-wise I'm very impressed though. Cheers
