Yoann Turpin's brand new album titled "Chip Ship" will be released on April 4th.

"Chip Ship" tells the story of a brave pirate travelling around the chiptune world. The album uses classic chiptune and FM sounds, united with different synthesizers and live piano. Stylistically, it takes a lot from Yoann's debut album "Rhythm'n'Bits", using a great combination of funk and groove beats with Turpin's unique harmonies and composition.

The artwork and video teaser were created by our visual-master Rufus Blacklock of Karrot Animation.

"Chip Ship" will be released on April 4th, after the listening party via Noise Channel radio. So, stay tuned!

"Vurgon is an assembling of songs I've written in the past year or so that I feel are tied together in apparent and not-so-apparent ways. This makes it something of a fragmented timeline for my own compositional development. It's my first completed album, too. Six years ago, I started making music on a computer as a naive hobby, alongside my education and career as a visual artist. Today, composition is just as personally vital as drawing or painting, if not moreso — although I've preferred to stay quiet about it.

Like any creative work, Vurgon is also an aesthetic statement; but it's a statement that folds back into itself and can't really be written out. It is, in part, this wordlessness — this sensuous "irrationality" — that draws me to pure, instrumental music. What is more mysterious in art than the emotions, narratives, scenes, and everything else these non-denotative tones can invoke? Along such lines, each track title on the album is nonsense that somehow, for me, correlates with the song's character"

— Ario.

Vurgon is dedicated to Rei Harakami, who died July 27, 2011.

"Motorway is my first full chiptune album. Instead of mixing formats, or simply putting together a compilation of songs I've already released, I decided to work on a pack of "new" tracks, with a couple of the old "classics" thrown in there.

I chose to write in the .xm format, and decided to use ModPlug tracker to make these songs; this was the first program I used to make music on a computer, and so I felt like my debut release should naturally be made using this program.

A lot of big changes have happened this year, both in my life and in the world. The biggest one for me was leaving home to go to university. In that respect, I feel like "Motorway" is an appropriate title. Heading towards a new destination.

Thank you's go to C-jeff and Ubiktune, for helping me through this process. Megus for mastering. Jordan for the awesome artwork, Truestar, Virt and noise channel, everyone who gave critique on tracks and previews. The many, many chiptune artists and musicians whose music continuously blows my mind, and anyone who takes the time to try listening to my music"

505 aka Nils Feske has the roots in the Atari scene and he is definitely one of the artists, who carries that oldschool demoscene spirit in his works.

Over the years, he made music for the albums of infamous YM Rockerz, as well as various Atari demoscene productions. In the past couple of years, he has successfully released a few solo albums, such as Cirrus via Phonocake, Pokey Love via Pause Music and hYMns via Pxl-Bot.

As opposed to 505's previous solo releases, Interlude integrates both Atari chip music elements and more modern soundscapes. The pieces on Interlude were started during an extensive stay in Nest Hostel Tbilisi back in summer 2011. There, Nils also met Heinz Rossi who is also responsible for the cover art.

As you remember, about 1,5 years ago in cooperation with BitJam podcast, we produced a podcast episode fully dedicated to Ubiktune music, based on your choices. Now, it is time for a second part. Make your choice and choose your favorite songs from any album, starting from PROTODOME's BLUENOISE (UBI026) up until the present day.

As we have so much music to choose from, we decided to make it at least in two rounds. With the first round, the most-mentioned tracks will form a list that will move on to the next round. Feel free to choose your favorites, but please, no more than two songs for one voter!

You can leave a comment right here, mention us with @ubiktune for Twitter, post on our page on Facebook, comment on our website, or even send us a mail to [email protected]. The deadline for the first round is on Sunday (October 21).

Meanwhile, you can check the first above mentioned "Best Of" episode below:

Berlin School is a kind of trance/ambient/experimental electronic music invented in Germany and played by such artists as Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze and others. With Strange Light Under My Bed, Yerzmyey — a veteran electronic music composer — has revisited the genre, using the retro-computers.

"I remember my surprise when I found out that those musicians, playing mostly in 70s, were often using rather simple electronic instruments (especially in comparison to modern monster-machines) and 80% of their incredible cosmic sound was... recording studio effects. The most obvious next thought was: if that's the case, then maybe I could re-create those conditions but with... retro-computers? smile

That's how this album was created. Here you find trance/ambient music composed on several retro platforms, recorded track by track, with a lot of studio-effects added, to create — along with those classic sound-chips — some mysterious cosmic atmosphere. The only instruments (and sequencers) were the retro-computers. All the material has been recorded from real ancient hardware track by track and put through sound-effects. Like, if Jean Michel Jarre or Tangerine Dream would be making music on ZX Spectrum, Atari or Amiga — the final outcome would be still the same as it is now.

P.S. If anybody is interested in original fragments of the tracks, without any FX added, I should have some of them, just for curiosity. Drop me a note: [email protected]"

Hello, ChipMusic.org! We have our pilot Ubiktune Bundle launched! Over the last 6 years we have been delivering a friendly chiptune and videogame-inspired music, getting inspiration from progressive rock and jazzy passages fused with funky beats while also tapping into old-school soundscapes.

While most of our albums have been free in the past, the Ubiktune Pilot Bundle serves as a great chance to obtain our non-free and special releases, available for simply $1! We share with you the works of our very own artists: Yoann Turpin, coda, Danimal Cannon, Maxo, subPixel, zabutom and Shnabubula — the mighty seven of wave forms.

The bundle establishment was possible with help of our friends over at Indie Game Music Bundle project and their new promising service Bundle Dragon.

And now, spread a word, share and take it while it's hot:

Yoann's Rhythm'n'Bits is now available on Amazon as well!

http://www.amazon.com/RhythmnBits/dp/B0096YAINK/

Rhythm'n'Bits is a tribute to the video game soundtracks that had a big impact on Yoann as a child. Yoann captured this fascinating music in this album, inspired by the RPGs from the 90's as well as Sega Mega Drive and Super NES games. The story told with the album is about the gamer he was and still is. In every track, Yoann tried to show that chiptune has not aged and can be considered a contemporary medium or instrument.

Somewhere in the sea of darkness, the remnants of the S3M-32 interstellar reconnaissance rocket glittered in hyperspace. There had been the scream of the alarm, the tearing of metal, and then the explosion—the four rookie scouts, secure in their emergency pods, had been ripped from the chaos of the ruined ship and scattered like light through a prism.

One by one, with the inevitability of time and speed, the pull of a strange blue planet wrapped invisible hands around their capsules and drew them down to the foreign soils and alien buildings of the surface. Each stepped out of the smoking pods, stepped out into a world of bizarre creatures and unknown words. Utterly isolated and far beyond the farthest interstellar comm links, they began to teach the strange civilization their language.

In time, Headquarters recovered the scouts’ reports, written and murmured into the pod’s computer banks in the hopes that someday someone might find them. The distant capsules were only found thanks to the tracer module in each ship…
