I am interested in how this mod was achieved @ akira^8GB. This is an awesome mod for the C64C Since I want to do some chiptune something like this is right up my alley
It's very simple, you just wire up some potentiometers to the correct pins on the controller ports. Both joy ports have 2 potentiometers (I think they're supposed to be 500KΩ each?), X and Y. If you want to be a bit fancy, you can combine a potentiometer with some other components (caps, trimpot, resistors) to make a much nicer, linear effect with can be calibrated for zero deadzone:

For added fun, you can add a switching potentiometer that either grounds the audio in pin (it's left floating for some stupid reason and adds a shitload of noise as a result) or allows you to feed the audio output back into the audio input (through the potentiometer) to get a variable feedback effect. Which sounds really cool.
Something that nobody has mentioned; RCA fits far more snuggly that 1/8" jacks. If you're planning on using it in a performance setting this can be important as it'll be far less likely for the RCA jacks to become disconnected.
Aside from that, there's no real difference at all. Some people prefer the aesthetics one way or the other, personally I couldn't care less about the aesthetics of my 23 year old plastic brick.
Hijacking the thread a bit since i have the same problem only worse.
I only have three lines visible but if i press on the cable underneath i can get the entire screen working but i've been unable to fix it with the method provided, are there really no hope for my screen or am i doing something wrong?
I've never found a device in which reflowing the solder hasn't fixed vertical lines like that. Having working for a local shop fixing bulk quantities of them, as well as experience with Game Boys of my own and of my friends I think you should make sure your iron is hot enough that that the solder really is reflowing.
VFF on every instrument.
It's not a pro-sound mod:
This Nintendo DS Lite was modded with the Division 6 MIDIfy kit.
It adds midi in: http://www.division-6.com/products/midify.php
It uses a 2.5mm jack to allow small devices like the DS to use the mod. You then use a special cable or adaptor to allow for MIDI input using a standard MIDI cable.
Your stuff is a lot of fun! Cool beans!
Replacing just the screen is going to be incredibly difficult, but it's easy enough to grab a cheap Game Boy and replace the whole screen PCB.
If you're looking for a really simple mixer, you can also build your own.
Take a small, thin rubber band and place it over the screw head. It'll work 90% of the time.
I was at a record shop and I found 3 copies of a charming little 7" with a familiar face on it so I bought my three best friends copies of "Suck My Dick, Lick My Arse" for Christmas.
Did I mention that one of them is the son of a pastor?
I had fun with it, glad you enjoyed.

Since they're the only ones who put feeling into their music, how about we just get inpuj, ZeroV2, ant1 and 4mat to write and release all our albums this year?
I for one certainly don't enjoy making chip music and I do it just as a way of wasting loads of my time and the time of those who listen to my stuff. As you all know from the ubiquity of the hundreds of various albums and releases of mine that you can find at your local music shop, I'm also a fan of just shitting out a lot of random music with no eye to aesthetics rather than taking my time with one or two releases a year. I also love to make music that sounds like it has interesting feeling, vibes and energy while in fact being a simple mathematical formula (invented by Nazi scientists) devoid of any emotion or human thought.
This new program of using the only 4 good chip musicians to make all the chiptunes is a great plan and it's certainly one that I can get behind.

I have never done a song with Trippy-H being used exclusively, but every album I have released has had some amount of Trippy-H. On my recently released album the last track has had a lot of Trippy-H usage.
I did! He's super rad and he played my release party!
