I'm not a huge fan of ambient droney noise stuff. I like it theoretically, but i can't just sit and listen to it unless it's as background noise for a creative endeavor.

I regularly listen to experimental music with experimental rhythms, harmonies, and melodies, though.

I'll stop making chipmusic when I can hit a club with 1-bit pc speaker unce and be universally embraced.

PS: I miss Space Boyfriend.

Why? Jami is super active and plays shows all the time, just put out an album!

Oh, i guess I should start keeping up with artists individually instead of on this forum. Whooops. Cool!

I'm going to stop announcing that I'm interested in these things. Sorry, time got away from me.

Wow how did I miss this?

I don't know if I'll ever stop. I can't see myself stopping, cuz I just started.

All the talk of curators and stuff makes me think of how mainstream radio works.

I have been thinking of doing some live instruments + chip stuff for awhile now. Technically my chibitech ukulele cover is that, since it uses LSDJ wav kits for the drums, but thats not quite the same. "unmixed-media chiptunes" is still really fun for me, and I haven't become tired of it yet. There is something special about it that will never go away for me.

I like how this turned into another "chipxistential crisis" thread and nobody complained about it (jinx)

I use VLC (some people will egg me for this, lol, but its great for just dragging a .zip archive into it and being able to play without extracting) or XMPlay to play all the tracker stuff. There are xmplay plugins that allow playback of AHX and other formats too. Deliplay2 is nice, as it plays a whole bunch of stuff (even sound club modules).

PS: I miss Space Boyfriend. PPS: aanaaanaaanaaanaaana stuff would be easier to ingest in mp3 format, probably...

You shouldn't make fun of people just because they were born with smaller appendages than others. So sexist. *smh*

If these "fun" threads are so important to you, why not make them in a place where they are welcome? Why does it have to be chipmusic.org? I don't understand.

I don't think it would be that hard to functionally copy those sounds in LSDJ. Either using the pulse channels+noise or, if that doesn't give you enough waveform options, wav channel(maybe mix some 25% or 12.5% pulse into it)+noise. I'm not hearing much of a kick at all. The Bitman has a great noise kick that uses a similar attack to the "kick" in that video, and it's really fully and deep for a noise kick. noisechannel.org has a tutorial on it, i think.

Kind of evidence-in-concept, here is the result of my trying to use LSDJ to mimick a snare sampled from C64 that I found in an xm module:

Noise at the start, then turn on the pulse, turn off the pulse and turn the noise back on. I don't have my lsdj on me right now, but I suppose if I pitched it higher, changed up the pulse width and decreased the speed of the pitch sweep it'd be pretty close.

I notice you like to do those slow arpeggios a lot.
I really enjoyed Long Drive Back.

Good sounds! I like how the intro bass sounds like a guy humming with his nose plugged. "Get y'all stank outta here I got my own! *DROPS THE FUNK*"

Personally I feel like that high melody should follow the bassline chord progression a bit more. The melody repeating unchanged so many times doesn't really appeal to me. But like... I dunno... I'm just posting to give an alternate opinion.

Maybe if you program an Impulse Tracker module with each sample you want to use played one by one individually, then use it2spc (converts Impulse Tracker modules to an SNES format) and then re-rip those samples from an emulator?

Also don't forget dat REVERB~~~

SNES had 8 channels, btw.
