I think that you only saw the Window bar. xD

Yeah, the only places I could find the logo was in the title bars, lol. The Renoise one is pretty well hidden.
Ah, but I think there is a lesson to be learned here. Renoise's logo is the background to an order list of sort. Very subtle. As for FamiTracker and MuseTracker I guess a text-based logo is a lot less intrusive in a text-based interface. I had assumed that the FamiTracker logo was the [FT] thing, not the "FAMITRACKER" thing, and I can't find that anywhere except in the Window Title-bar.

At the very least it leaves an impression smile

And like I said, I don't want to tread on your artistic vision or anything. Plus, the most important thing is the functionality and format support first and foremost.

LOL!, or hexedit deflemask.exe to remove the mask PNG.

wink like I said it's no real biggie wink

oh come on wailord, lol. Are you sure it's not the same 4 chords over and over??? hmmm???

But seriously it could be the place for zimbolt if more people like him would come here and stuff, ya know?

I like it. It's fun big_smile I'd like it more if there was an instrument playing sustained notes over it now and then.

FastTrackerII: It's basically acting as the title bar, displaying the NAME of the application (title bars weren't a big thing back then)
Famitracker: Logo is in the title-bar, with the name of the application displayed under the
Renoise: Logo is in the title-bar, with the name of the application at the bottom
MuseTracker: appears to be just a generic "Window" icon with the title of the tracker once again.

I guess I should have clarified that by logo i meant logo-graphic. That's the difference I'm seeing. All the others just use text.

But like I said, it's no real biggie. As you have shown me, most trackers have a large unused space for app identification purposes, and I think it is a neat tradition. Don't worry about it wink I can get used to it and over it, hehe. Not trying to tread on your artistic vision here.

wow you guys... -_- this is like one of the best things to come to these forums this year and only three people have commented.

*glares hard at the entire chipmusic.org community*

I am disappoint. So so disappoint... ;_;

man man... but.. compression much? Or is that just bandcamp's streaming quality? I want to be able to see the dynamics in the wave forms man. Loudness war is blarney! death to loudNES!

:3 but this is such good stuff. The woops in teh background were a nice touch.

heaven forbid songs play with their tonality once in a while~ oy oy

It's really just a matter of what the artist intended for the music to be, and who is the intended audience. Oft times you can tell that a person is intentionally playing with tonality from an educated and deliberate stand-point as opposed to someone who doesn't really know what they're doing or why, and to many people the latter is displeasing to the ears.

*Disclaimer: I have not listened to the tunes.

The pattern editor uses a texture, not a simple color value. Editing the  png will do the job.

About the logo, it can be disabled from the intro (edit config.ini), but not from the main window. It's the program logo, it should be somewhere in the interface, maybe I will reduce its size only if I need more space.

The lack of "actual words" in the buttons is on purpose, an homenage to Fast Tracker.

I don't recall ever seeing a program logo in the actual interface of a program, but I can understand why you'd want to keep it there. I'm sure I could probably get used to it if I buckle down and just try maybe. Cosmetics aren't as important as function anyway. smile

I hope you didn't take the "actual words" thing offensively. I'm aware that it is a traditional thing, and I'm probably the only person who has trouble with it, lol.

Thanks for taking my comments into consideration. smile

he had an epiphany and disappeared

Hey, you know... Maks (this is what I call the Maskman who looks down upon all) is pretty cool, but kind of creeps me out a bit sometimes. Workspace environment mood is kind of important to me, and that guy staring it me kind of kills it. Do you think you could have some kind of option to modify the look of him, or to hide it if one so desires? Maybe have an alternate mood-flipped skin where he's like a smirking Japanese tanuki mask or something?

Or if not that, if you made Maks a bit smaller you might even be able to increase the user-friendliness of the interface, i.e. have the buttons big enough to have actual words on them to make it easier to tell what they do, or just have it less cramped to make it easier to work on other things like instrument creation or what-not.

Other than that, I'm actually one of the people who really likes the way things are set up. Being able to modify the skin (besides Maks) is a plus - so I could for example make it look less pillow-gradient shaded and more pixel-art stylish or what-have-you - and I like how you have the note, effect, and volume columns spaced out to make it less confusing. Good job with that. I always have trouble with like, milkytracker, openmpt, famitracker, where it's merely color-coded. I like things to be segmented off.

I mean, Maks is a cool dude, but he just gives off a weird vibe that makes it difficult for me (and others) to work. I love the customization options so far. It'd be great to be able to give it just that little extra touch.

Edit: also is there a way to change the background color of the pattern editor?

UMMMMM WHY DOES THIS THREAD NOT HAVE 20 PAGES BY now? This is soooo awesome what is wrong with us people?

Heard it on noise chan radio I am SOOO glad TrueStar has such good taste heart ungh

It's so s/bizarre/unusual I don't know what to think. The melodies are all over the place, likewise with the progressions, almost in a parodic nature at times. I find it very interesting how much breathing room there is in this work. A lot of empty space. I don't think I ever really got a good grasp of what was going on tongue

Will listen again when sleep deprived.

It has a top three though. If anything that's a really bad way of doing things, because music by already popular artists gets listened to more than stuff by new artists.

regardless, it still gave people the motivation to keep posting new tracks over and over again

these days even the "popular artists" aren't uploading new tracks as often if you think about it

Like.. once a week. Only the first song you upload per week is displayed on the front-page. That might explain it maybe.

Haha stargazer (-w-) it's not like this will take away any "activity" from the #chipmusic channel wink

It's a great way for us to get up close and personal with nitro2k01 in realtime away from the non #LSDj #chipmusic regulars and just talk about LSDJ, eh?

Or just chat in the #chipmusic channel >_> or both! big_smile

Real-time! You can ask all questions that would normally be considered "clutter" in real time and get real time answers or non-answers ^_^

OP: Literally no advice/criticism/comments in this thread deserves harsh criticism such as you have underhandedly given. This is literally the best thread of this type I've ever seen on chipmusic.org so far. I'm shocked and apalled yikes But yeah as katsumbhong said make music that you want to hear and you will have no regrets. Of course, for most that is easier said than done. Listen to yourself with a critical ear.

Anywho... From a sound-design standpoint, this is one of the issues with newcomers trying to produce chiptune using modern DAWS: It tends to focus on the "limitations" of chipmusic, whereas chipmusic produced in actual chipmusic formats and platforms (tracker modules, C64, Gameboy, NES, AHX, ZXSpectrum, etc) focuses on exploiting and getting around those limitations. So "REAL" Gameboy music that has had a lot of work put into it will end up sounding more technically advanced than someone who says "hey I want to make sounds like Super Punkio in a DAWTree" and just uses basic bleeps and bloops in a super advanced program like FLStudio or Reason or even Renoise or Sunvox. If you really want to produce a chiptune sound that appeals to chiptuners then you have to listen to chiptune and check out the fancy stuff they do with their sound design and use or lose whatever you like or don't like.

If you don't want to do that then do whatever, haha. I know of a couple people who might dig this kind off thing.

Edit; Pardon the tone of my first paragraph it was very tongue-in-cheek meant to be mostly playful... :T

if you're just jotting down music ideas, use a voice recording app.

touch screens are garbage for writing music

voice recorder apps can cause annoyance to those around you who don't want to listen to your off-tune whiny voice humming into a microphone. Sometimes you have to strap on some headphones and load up midiseq or riff studio
