@nitro2k01 nope the outputed file is no good sad its probably me i knoew but what am i doing wrong?

It's funny. When I use BGB with WINE on my Linux machine, I can do all kinds of stuff that causes the audio to mess up and skip, but the wav output file comes out perfectly fine.

Have you tried changing your "Graphics>output" settings?

Craigslist?

Cool sounds, bro.

I'm not a fan of profanatic samples, but I'd be lying if I said I thought they were used poorly.

Yeah. Pretty much unusable except on autoplay mode, at least for me.

when i try to record a wav from my lsdj song its allway glitchy like itll play ok for a while then cut out a tiny piece of audio wich is almost unoticeable REALLY ANNOYING ME what can i do about it im running a quadcore processor with 2 gb ram

This may happen in the sound that goes to your soundcard during recording, but the recorded file should be fine. Can you confirm?

I've had problems with skipping too, and it does show up in the recording. I assumed it was because I was using too much tables and effects, causing the system to clog up and stutter.

BGB tries to emulate a typical Gameboy, including this type of effect. If you're getting these clicks in BGB, but not on real hardware, you should report it as a bug.

Well, the clicks are supposed to happen with a real DMG, but not with the CGB, right? My BGB is in CGB mode, so I guess I should report it as a bug. I don't have any real hardware to compare it to, unfortunately.

Hm. I suppose this is as good a thread as any for my question:

I've heard from a few sources that there's no clicking when switching L/R channels in emulators. There's clicking in my BGB. I don't know if I changed some settings or what, but, I'd like to know how to get rid of it. I've been okay with it for awhile, but it's starting to get in the way when I want to use rapid pans at low volumes.

That's weird, I remember using bgb and never got that when panning fast.
Maybe I wasn't panning that fast, though.

It happens even if the panning is slow.

Anyone ever tried performing on/composing a 2xLSDJ tune for DMG+GBC? That'd be kind of cool to see them working together. You can use the DMG for the stuff the DMG is good at (Bass?), and the GBC for the things the GBC excels in (Complex tables and not choking).

I think the most important part is that we're not making videogame music.

yes. that's very important.

It'd be cool to see a game with a "modern" chiptune soundtrack for a change instead of just the retro-styled stuff. Just throwing that out there...

Can we shit all over Moe Moe Kyunstep for using a VRC6 expansion now?

I almost compared 2xlsdj to NES and vrc6, but didn't, for fear of the fallout, but yeah, those expansion chips are cheating.

+1 (Do people still do that?)

i'm just trying to point out that this is how many of the older purists look at chipmusic.   to many, the tools are actually perceived as inseparable from the creation, because the tools' limitations and characteristics are directly responsible for determining the particular qualities of the songs.

i'd like to think that chipmusic differentiates itself from all other kinds of music in that the community tries to disseminate amongst itself a desire to understand the hardware/software.   as a composer, i'd certainly like the listener to gain a greater understanding of the limitations i was subject to, because they more they do, they more they can experience the music in its entirety.

I'd just like to point out two things:

1. LSDJ was designed with LINK CABLE capabilities, so technically 2xLSDJ is not "cheating" as the "tool" was made to be expandable to another Gameboy. Right?

2. Hirokazu Tanaka did not use LSDJ to make Gameboy music, and Koji Kondo did not use Famitracker to make NES music. I don't know anything about the Amigas and Ataris and stuff, though.

This thread is inert.

Come to think of it, they should have made "Donkey Kong Land" 2 players with a cable, and had player 2's gameboy add pulse kicks, arps and synthy padding to the soundtrack. Duuude...

It's being nostalgic for a sound that didn't exist.

Depends on how you define "sound". The core sound of square waves, arps, etc, is still there. It's just moving on from that nostalgia into expanded territory. Like using a 70's skateboard to do varials.

It's fantastic to watch, but I find it much more interesting to listen to one, because I can listen out for how to tones make up a sound.

It all depends on why you listen to what you listen to. Do you enjoy analyzing it, or do you just enjoy the sounds.

I can try to replicate the sound of a beat boxer using my own vocals. As I said, it's entirely based on what I view my reasoning for making the music, but I'm sure it rings true for many.

Bringing it back to Gameboys, the only reason you can't identify with 2xLSDJ as you can with 1xLSDJ is because you choose not to use 2xLSDJ, thus you lack the internal sound palette to analyze it. Nothing wrong with that, though.

This thread is giving me a headache... =S

If it sounds full, then it sounds full. If people like how it sounds, then they like how it sounds. But I guess that's the weird thing about chipmusic. So much of it is focused on "look at what I can DOO with all these limitations. I'm just awesome like that.". As more artists come up who aren't associated with that "keygen intro" mentality, they just want to make music that sounds cool and familiar to what they grew up with, but to make it their OWN music.

They don't seem to be so worried about receiving praise for crossing the Atlantic on a toothpick.

It just seems like, as people are not used to hearing the sounds of a Gameboy used in such a lush way, they just get overwhelmed and have to praise it, despite the fact that it's two Gameboys. It's a knee-jerk reaction, provided you are not biased against 2xLSDJ to begin with.

The only thing you can do is try to beat them, or join them, or just go on with your art and nuts to the rest.

And tell the two bassists that sometimes they may be a drummer

Slap and pop.

If you have six guitarists on stage

I cheated it's 4 guitars and an orchestra.

Hm. If I made the chart, I'd probably have interpreted the arps as chords rather than trills. Interesting.

Also, this is really cool. I might try it some time... They should have made the "bass" singable, lol. that'd be fun...

I wonder if anyone has FCed it yet. *goes to youtube*

Rrussellian got it in one. You win the thread.

I don't think so.

I like ant1 and ZanZan's musics, because I listen and remember what it was like when I recorded myself making music for its own sake, didn't have to show anybody, and it didn't matter if there were site hits, downloads, sales, audience...

Not everyone can or should push boundaries, but not everyone can or should sell to the masses. Thinking there isn't a place for one or the other goes against Lazerbeat's last bullet point- (not) bickering about what (chip)music is.

Isn't that pretty close to what Russellian said, though? Just live and let live?
