Dang, looks like I have to recreate an account to dA again. tongue

All your projects looks so awesome! heart

I've heard that vinegar works quite well with cleaning battery contacts. Also light sanding might work. Kitsch is also selling new ones for 0.80 dollars.

Fixing dead (vertical) lines is really easy with soldering iron. Just remove small strip of rubber/plastic from the bottom of the screen, clean area from glue and slowly heat brown ribbon cable. smile

Have you tried to install backlight without the switch or solder wires other way around?
Also, can you take some pictures of your soldering?

It's awesome to see so many neat looking mods! big_smile

This thread has so much awesomeness inside.

Check your soldering and wiring again. Trust me, I had similar problem with my mode switch button. I had accidentally soldered it to wrong pin. big_smile
And neither my red LED is working but everything still works.

I found out that they have front light panels that can be used in lighting GBCs and are a lot cheaper to find than GBA SP AGS-001s... at least for me!

I have to disagree with you. Original DS actually has backlight which won't work with GBCs. If I remember right, there should be a topic in Benheck's forum about this.

Have you checked if a fuse is still working on your AGB? The fuse should be near power switch labelled as F1 or F2.

The Micro requires you use the L button in conjunction with the volume buttons to change the brightness. It would be super awkward to do with the R button if that function existed.

Dang, I remembered that wrong. tongue

Well no but isnt that a little overboard for that. If you got a single color i like the contrast wheel idea. I think the micro uses the volume button for digital brightness setting. I used to have the afterburner installed on my gba and that used button press combos like thiis but i cant for the life of me recall what it was

Didn't Afterburner use thumbwheel- like potentiometer?

And for Micro you have to press right shoulder button and volume buttons to change the brightness.

What comes for button combiations, LSDJ doesn't use A + SELECT(?). Would it be possible to toggle colours using this combination?

Glad to hear you got it working! It can always be tricky your first go at it

For sure it's tricky! And when using such a small arduino as Nano it gets hard to squeeze everything to their own places.

I think I found a one problem though. When I start a track in FL studio, it seems like arduinoboy resets first and then starts to play the song. Otherwise I have been really happy about it.

Last night my arduinoboy stopped to receive data from MIDI in port. I replaced opto isolator and diode, but even after that nothing happens.

Maybe I just have to rebuild everything again...

E: After checking Trash80's schematic I think I found where the problem lies. I forgot to connect one pin from the isolator! big_smile I feels so stupid right now.

E2: It works!

I checked my wiring and resoldered few wires, but still no success. sad
HOWEVER, when I press play or stop, DMG makes really faint squeaking sound. And when I add C5 I get (again, faint) knocking sound. No matter which mode I am using these sounds appear.

If you didn't catch the edit, double check your wiring on the link cable. I spent days on the first one I built just because I got the pin numbers confused tongue

Make sure you aren't trying to play midi notes that are outside of MGB's range. Test with a C5 or something.

I don't imagine your diode is to blame. To my knowledge those two diodes are basically equivalent.

I followed 2PLAYER's guide with DMG-07's cable. I'll recheck my wiring when I get back to home!

Have you tried any troubleshooting beyond your soldering? Is your DMG solid (sound/link port working)? Are you sending midi notes on the correct channel and within usable range? Is your arduinoboy set to the MGB setting?

If the lights are blinking in response to midi information it seems possible that your Arduinoboy isn't the problem. Good luck!

Whoa, that was quick answer!

And yah, DMG is fine, I have tested arduinoboy with two different DMGs, no difference.

And I think I'm using right channel (arduinoboy supports channels 1-4 right?) and I have tried all possible modes.

This is my first thing with MIDI, so I might be missing something obvious.

Hi there!
Yesterday I built my first arduinoboy! It looks nice and stuff, but I can't get it to work. I've been trying to send notes through FL studio's MIDI out but all I get is arduinoboy's LEDs blinking, but DMG with mGB is silent. I have checked my solderings but I don't find any shorts or similar. Can someone please help me with this one?

As a side note, I used 1N918 diode instead of 1N914. Could that be the reason why it isn't working properly?
