I've named bicycles and cars, but not really electronics. I don't think I've named guitars or other musical instruments either.

My computers do have network names, as was discussed above. They're thematically named after figures in greek culture.

For example my laptops are named LOGOS, ETHOS, and PATHOS.

I don't really think the LCD "dims" in the sense of the word I'm understanding you to be using right now.

Maybe something makes the contrast waver a bit, but there's no light component in the screen other than the added backlight that could be "dimming."

That might be a bluff, but I don't know enough about the situation with Jose Torres' attempts to trademark 8bc to really make any kind of informed statement on the matter.

The way I think most people currently handle this is by only keeping ROMs that don't write to SRAM on page 2.

This would include things like The DMG Test ROM or demos. Some very popular choices are found in the assortment of choices in the GBDev music tools file repository.

Another good example is the original Game Boy tetris, which I had to be corrected on a while back as to whether or not it writes to SRAM. So, assuming you have a legal copy of tetris, you could keep that on your second page as well.

Man, I love it when people are assholes and then retroactively justify it with a senseless veneer of artistic pretense.

I guess we aren't music heads, though.

They fit with no modifications.

Ah, yeah, I'd meant to be more clear about that in my post.

They're literally a drop in replacement, the only tool you need is a screwdriver. And your brain. wink

As for the difference in feel, it's a matter of preference. The NES buttons are more concave and the DMG buttons are convex.

This is not only possible, but very common.

Here's one of mine:

He's also the only person who is able to cover the nyan cat music both ironically and unironically at the same time.

Yes, good tunes were chipped by all. smile

Inversely, CGB link cables are really hard to get here, but DMG ones aren't.

You can use the CGB/MGB form factor cables for DMG, but you need the far less common Adapter plug that came with some of the MGB cables.

Anyway, I have one I can part with. I'll PM you. wink

In defense of the CGB, the Game Boy Color is really a different device. It's a more powerful computer with a few more capabilities, so if you're using it for your project, it should be because you want to use it specifically. Game Boys aren't expensive enough, even modified, to create a situation where you have to choose one over the other forever.

Also, the GBA runs pretty much exactly like a color, so you can always use a GBA SP for tracking or whatever extended use activity you'd like, and then just use a Color (pro-sound or not) to record.

Oh snap.

Be there or be doing something considerably less awesome.

Yeah, the best is to look for a broken one on eBay or Craigslist.

That said, this is a pretty involved mod and probably isn't well suited for a beginner. Proceed at your own risk.

i have a ymf724 pci card

some things to bear in mind about that:  you can only install the yamaha drivers from windows, but you can only use the soundcard from dos (as far as i can tell). essentially this means running windows 9x and booting in dos mode, but you might be able to copy across the drivers manually to an installation of DOS

i also do not get sampled sound out of it in any DOS sample trackers with it.

the plus side is that the OPL sound is fantastic and works. but maybe it is a little more hassle than it is worth. i only chose this because my spare pc had pci slots. i am happy enough for fm tracking (just use dosbox now though) with it

I have one of these, and I can't get the FM to work at all because the PC I put it in doesn't have the PC/PCI link header…

I'm looking for one of those motherboards now.

You have to frontlight them.

The most common method is to use the frontlight out of a broken AGS-001 Game Boy Advance SP.

If you can't find a broken one, or don't want to gut a GBA SP at all, maybe you could find an Afterburner kit for the original Game Boy Advance.

That said, I don't know where to get those anymore, and I haven't done this mod before, but maybe that information can help you.
