I released a new CD in Russia 10 days ago. It's my first album since 4 years, and it's a DIY-CD thing with design by Raquel Meyers. 14 songs and 2 videos. There's a few copies left so if you want it, paypal me 10 euros ([email protected]) and I'll send you a copy. If you prefer other media, there'll be vinyl and minidisc coming soon. And of course, there's always the ACID BURGER.

Funny, the guy from Low Res told me that the VS-record was made in Fasttracker. But the cover and the name kind of proves him wrong hehe.

@saskrotch: he supposedly worked with protracker on the amiga too. and his first cassettes were all protracker. but i don't know for sure. do you have any hard evidence? smile

Oh yeah, and Patric Catani. He's got new AHX-stuff coming out soon, I hope. All in his characteristic psycho-style. Some stuff also @ https://8bc.org/members/toytone

The largest collection of AHX MP3s is probably http://www.paula8364.com
Enjoy the browsing smile I really like Mortimer Twang's work in AHX...

future-eater is not doing any new music, but he recently put a lot of his old stuff at modland. with the name that he used to release stuff for the tracker-label noise back in the days. uhm. ah, can't remember now.

1) tap (tape) and d64 (disk) are emulator formats. prg is the extension that they gave to executable C64-files (which don't need to have an extension on the C64). not sure, but i guess putting tap and d64-files on 1581 would take some effort.

also, PC-drives don't really like 1581-disks. when i was using my 1581 i remember i had to read them on the amiga, which could also read pc-disks, and then get it to the pc. but perhaps that's changed by now.

the good thing with the 1581 is that the chicks dig it.

But, that said, I have a sneaking suspicion that MOST people who enjoy 1-bit tunes do so (at least initially) not for brilliant composition, but rather because of composition embedded in a specific limitation. I think that the whole idea of pointing to compositional value is really an argumentative maneuver, because of the fact that it is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to argue about preferences, used to point to something beyond limitation. For example, "Ha ha, I win, you can't tell me what I don't like, and I like composition. And I like 1-bit BECAUSE of its compositional value."

Not sure I understand you. But, since it's basically impossible to say why/how we like music, why do you want discuss it as if there was one answer to get to?

I guess we always understand a song in relation to some set of limitations. A gameboy-beat is different if we hear it in a hip-hop club. Stereotypes, languages and genres help us to understand situations in different ways. What if "mood" is a limitation?

But....

Why do we talk so much about limitations? Is it just a way to conceptualize what we do and make it legit for outsiders? Since every instrument has its limitations, why are we so eager to emphasize this with our instruments, when others prefer to talk about potentials instead of limitations with their tools?

Trackers give more control and are fast to work with, especially the ones not based on samples. The low amount of waveforms and polyphony is maybe just the price you have to pay for this mega-luxury?

Celebrate!

As said, all technology has "limitations". If there were no limitations, there would be nothing. No character, no fun.

Chipmusic people are constantly confirming the idea that less channels is more limiting than more channels. (perhaps some mean that limited != limiting, but still..) Or less waves, bits or pixels or whatever. But it's not. Right? Why would you use something that *actually* limits you?

4 channels is *better* than 32 channels!

You can find plenty of vinyl-releases with 8-bit music here. I know that riot33r has a super-huge collection aswell.
