Yeah, I love the sound of it! I was completely shocked when I first heard it. What the hell is this?! smile There's been other similar things - like C64MP3 and, maybe more similar, Birdburner. But technically I guess they are more like vocoders than speech synthesizers. Pre-calc lamerz, hehehe. In that context, it's worth to mention Dan Stowell's "realtime AY-vocoder", which I jammed together with live at Hatebit a while ago -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJZ1qjMdZHE

There's not that many speech synthesizers on C64 where you can fully control what it says, afaik. SAM has a nice interface to it, in Dalek Speech. By accident, I posted something about speech synthesis at Chipflip a while back, and there's some links scattered around there: http://chipflip.wordpress.com/2010/03/2 … synthesis/

And then there's for example http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=40227 & http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=88354 where you can control some stuff. The best one in this category is probably http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=44096

Would be great to hear your friend's work!

'Who is Bozo Texino?'. Great images / sound / story / topic. Trains, escapism and an obscure subculture. Is it allowed to link to torrents here, or, uh...?

it seems to me like mr.black dog is trying to hide something. let's call the time-travelling paparazzis!

and good ol' ceephax! he told me that it was almost only for sequencing other stuff.

hey indeed, that must have been their old BBS smile (it was called black dog towers).
Is there any stuff they had on there available ?

a friend of a friend called their BBS once, using the handle aPH3X tWiN. smile but i don't know what they had on there, or what they called themselves, or released. i almost know nothing at all! but i think mostly they sequenced other hardware with the Amiga.

i did send a message to that guy who's still in Black Dog, but i'm not really expecting an answer..

he's out to get you!

ok, so i've fast-forwarded through the history of welle: erdball hehe. there's about 10-15 C64-songs in there - they're all called xxxx (c-64 version). first release with more than one c64-song is from 2001. in general, there's just the occasional 64-version of songs here and there. so, yeah, that's it. now back to ergo phizmiz's 15 hour song!

@temp: actually, you're right that bogdan's stuff has a very chippy sound to it. ft2-chip-style, but what the heck. but what's cobra laser? sounds amazing smile

@jakten: yep, i've sort of forgot to look into their stuff coz it's really not my kind of music. but i just found a torrent so i'll plow through it.... :I

they should be in the 1337-area here!

minidisc!

MD (founder of scene.org) released some good stuff as Mel O Dee in the scene, later as MD or Kzschzt. Loonie and Radix did some PC-scene electronica. Yolk did some nice things aswell, as Crankshaft I think. Labels like Merck, Neouija and Tokyo Dawn had plenty of eellktkektrronika-demosceners.

Or, yeah, check all the larger PC-demos from the late 90s. As I remember they all had blue tunnels and pretty decent melodic tracker-IDM, hehe. Tpolm and Replay. Hm.

VST killed the IDM!!

I've asked many gabba/breakcore/dnb people about what was actually made (mostly) with the internal Amiga sound: Catani, Mark from Bloody Fist, Fifth Era, those Newcastle gabba people, Aphrodite, Low Res Records, etc. But if you have specific suggestions of releases that are not on the list, let's hear them!

@lazer: i've decided to leave out game music soundtracks. but there were plenty of beepy game soundtracks released also in the 1990s? was it perhaps even more popular in the 90s?

@Mano: Thanks. I've got 9 Fischkopf-releases listed in the timeline, but I didn't reach the label-people yet though. If you know of 8-bit stuff that's not in the timeline, let me know. If you're not too busy rioting for the economy, that is. smile

@RG: Ok, I'll e-mail him and ask, thanks.

I'd like to add this quote to the wiki chiptune article, may I?

Hehe, yeah.

Does anyone know of any chipmusic that was released on records/cassettes/etc in the 1990s? There's tons of Amiga gabba/breakcore, but I mean things that sound like chipmusic. You know - beepepeeepidididid ee iiiiii beeppeppep 10001011101. Just posted the ones I know about here - http://chipflip.wordpress.com - but hungry for more. Maybe the 90s was like this?

EDIT: ...or netlabels for that matter.

i'll keep it pretty schlager, c u there!
