But is that the resistor to replace? I'm having trouble following the traces but it looks like that R1 is for the LED.

Ok. Then there's surely such a thing as 10k resistors... tongue

Are you replacing R1 (1k) near the top edge of the board above the LED? I put some water clears in and they are blinding.

Yes, the flat edge/short leg should be plugged into your ground rail.

You should get some feedback when you're trying to load the sketch onto your arduino about whether or not it was successful. Without seeing a picture of your breadboard, it's hard to guess what could have gone wrong for you. Make sure that all your bits are facing the right direction (your chips, leds, et all).

If this doesn't need to be particularly practical, you could take a midi keyboard and wire it's individual keys to the buttons of a few gameboys. You might even be able to piggy back the tactile switches on the gameboy boards and let people play tetris or something and generate music at the same time!

Well a big step was flip the IC around! That schematic works but it should be noted that "Pin 4" and "Pin 5" are not where you expect. If you're looking at the face of the jack and it's frowning (as opposed to smiling) the second pin is "Pin 4" and the forth pin is "Pin 5". I don't know if this a standard way of labeling these connectors, but it was kinda of counter-intuitive to me.

Whoops! Had some bits wired up wrong! But now it works!

So I went back to checking the voltage across the gameboy color link cable and all but one of the wires is giving off 4.9v. Does that sound right? I unhooked each wire from a header and kept them in order. So ground is right next to the shield and I think first wire should be VCC+. Any advice would be wonderful!

Pushin blows, use MGB instead

Haha well it's just something I decided to take on to busy my hands. I'd like it to work but I don't really care if it works better than anything else.

I had an altoid tin laying around and decided to give this thing a shot. I think I have the whole jawn wired properly but it's not working. If someone could tell me which pins "4" and "5" should be on the midi jack, I can probably figure out what's wrong from there. Thanks!

Every couple of years is pretty good. I was just worried that it would be every couple of months. It wouldn't be worth putting the time or cash into modding a system if the screen is going to need constant tlc.

Is the vertical line fix a long lasting solution or do you end up having to open 'er up and reheat all the time? Or, another way, is it bailing water or plugging the hole?
