You sound very negative for someone that just got a free vacation to New York and the only person on this event getting paid to play (and even got effectively paid already!). You should get some shows, nothing stops you from doing that if you want at least some of the profit you could have gained while staying! Bravo to you for getting a proper deal.

Firstly, I haven't got a free vacation to anywhere.

Secondly, getting your travel paid for is not getting paid to play, the gig was a potential earner through the fee & merch sales just like any other event. I've lost earnings through turning down other promoters in accepting this gig and committing vacation time to those dates.

All is not lost though, something will be salvaged from this and i'm hopeful some of the billed artists will be able to play at an event this summer.

you're making it sound like he went for me instead of you, which is a  ridiculous thing to even bring up!

I emailed offering to play out of my own pocket. I live IN NEW YORK STATE. he said he would get back to me, he never did and sabrepulse got booked instead.

I was one of the first people to be approached about this gig when I met roger in person at the start of march.

I'm heavily disappointed that this awesome show won't happen, but I'm equal parts happy that nobody got screwed because of this...

...nobody got screwed, right?

I've booked time off work that can't be cancelled, and turned down two gig offers over the period that I would be away (loss of earnings!), this was also going to be a release party for ctrix/my split record which we're both disappointed won't be happening anytime soon now.

It's safe to say people have made travel plans for this already and have been screwed. The whole community has been shafted really, on a trust level.

I am so disappointed in all of this. Roger paid for my plane ticket outright so from my perspective I had no reason to assume there wasn't an event.

What the fuck guys.

uuhh.... no. this isn't remotely pay to play. where do you even get that from?

How is it not?

becuase people are getting paid to play

roger, if I were you i'd ask a mod to cut down on this thread, or create a new one - it reflects badly on the event (through no fault of your own)

I get the feeling a lot of people backed out becuase they thought roger/b3tabot wasn't legit. He is, and the community should be super stoked there's someone willing to invest this much time and money in a great event!
