prosound is definitely non-essential, but can become helpful when using with multiple pieces of other hardware that also put out a bit of noise (like an nes or bent gear) or when trying to match output levels of pro gear...when using just a game boy, your time may be better spent learning how to use noise reduction in your recording software than prosound modding
