Recently some local kids got together and approached me about DJing a New Year's Eve party for them in an old school one of their parents own. I have a fairly extensive collection of dance music that I will go through while DJing, but because of my new found love for chiptunes I would really love to be able to squeeze in a chiptune or two throughout the night.

I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for chiptunes that could be easily mixed in with 125-135 electronic dance tracks. I will be playing for a couple hours and they told me I have liberty to do what I want just keep people dancing. They also told me if this goes well they will be wanting to do this more often.

Thanks smile

Here is the setup I am imaging.

I will have my laptop running Ableton Live and have an APC40 running it with a MIDI Fighter 3D for effects. The sound card will plug into the mixer along with an Ipad, N-DS, Kaossilator, mic, and I want a few slots to be able to plug in guitar, or bass, or anything really. I want flexibility with that. Then the output will plug into a KP3.

I will be get some scholarship money soon and will not care to spend a little bit but nothing outrageous because I need to still get the APC40 and a soundcard, but that is I think the last of what I need to have a live workstation that I want.

Any suggestions towards this or ideas? I really appreciate hearing from all of you too thanks!

I have been looking at mixers for a bit and I have no clue what to get.

I have around 8-10 devices that I will want to be able to plug in. I would like to have RCA out so that I could run it to a KP3 without a converter. I have never owned a mixer that didn't come built into my PA head and there are so many brands and models I just don't know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions on something I should look into?

Thanks smile

Thank you very much! Can't wait to see more.

I love the site! It has so much content and it has been helping me a lot and keeping me motivated to do things. Everyone has been so nice and helpful so far too. Plus I love hearing new tracks all of the time.

Thanks for the idea! I have been putting a lot of time into trying to figure things out and you have been very helpful thanks! I should have some new tunes from testing things here soon.

Thanks a ton! I have been working on lots of stuff and I figured it will all be unfinished because I want as much input as I can to help things sound better and to learn more. I didn't want to take up space with something that is not finished or anything. Thanks for the input though and I didn't know who to ask, but should I start a new thread each time I have a new track that I want opinions on or how should I go about doing that? Again thanks for listening!

HI, I am new to the site.

My name is Michael and I have been wanting to get into a chiptune scene for a while and finally got some of the tools to do it. A computer is what I have to work with for now. I really came here to here new chip music all of the time and to try and get opinions on things I put together. I really am trying to get better at what I want to do and I hope all of you can help me become a better musician and help me with theory or sound design. Thank you all so much. This is something that I really needed. I am so happy I found this site. smile I hope you are all having an awesome day and I hope to hear from you all in the future!

I made it all in Ableton Live with a bunch of VSTs I have accumulated. I really am looking for more advice on how to possibly structure songs  better. I feel like I am not very good at that at all.

I have just joined the site recently and I am insanely interested in making chiptunes and hearing all of yours. I have mild knowledge of music theory and am trying to figure things out so please bare with me.

Here is the track I am looking for input on. I will probably be uploading work on here as I finish them to see if I can get any input on what to do differently or anything like that. Thanks so much for your time and I hope this track doesn't make you want to die or anything. Any input would be lovely.

I really really want to get better at this. If there is anything you can tell me to make me do better please do smile

I am not really sure where I was going with this track I sort of just kept arranging things until they sounded fine in my head.

EDIT-  I am very new here and I apologize for not reading the sticky for this forum. The constructive criticism that I am looking for is on my music theory and sound quality. I am worried that the sounds do not sound good and that I may have messed up some theory in making it. I would appreciate suggestions on either of those areas or anything that comes to mind when you listen. Again thanks.

EDIT 2- I am going to try and use this thread to post other works I come up with so that I can possibly have a continual learning experience from all of you! I would like to know whatever you have to tell me in hopes that you can help me create something amazing! Thanks  a lot!
