Wasn't there some big-ass torrent around, even with a license.txt for each track? Might be something for archive.org.

You can expand the file list there- only tracks with 10+ likes though, so a lot fell under the radar.

Well, since this is kind of an obituary/epitaph thread..

The most fun I had on 8bc was when I did the Dr. Szliszka thing with Sievert. I doubt that would have worked equally well here. Also, the discussions with ant1 and Linde heart

I won't miss the meme trolls and image macro warriors, not one bit.

The question is this:
Is chipmusic.org ready for the hoardes of bays people that will come over here now to find their cheapchoon?

Hm, I don't see why not. 8bc has been effectively down for 3 months, and cm.org hasn't exploded yet. Neither from traffic nor Rage Against The Bays People. wink

Holy shit, I feel embarrassed beyond measure now. yikes

Well, if I didn't imagine them, the loop points would indicate samples. It wouldn't be too strange if they were SID samples wink

Doesn't ring a bell instantly, but I can hear loop points on the bass. That and the hard stereo makes me think Amiga.

Oh yeah, I wasn't meaning to be critical of it, it just feels like culture moves so fast now. Going back to my home town in England a few years ago and seeing kids aged 15 or 16 wearing "Kurt RIP 1994 " shirts was a bit odd. Also, I guess with so much culture now being digital, movies or books or music aren't quite so tied to a particular era any more.

I don't know. I'd have no problem wearing a Hendrix tee, even though he died 9 years before I was born. I wouldn't consider it "Faux Nostalgia" either, but just an expression that I enjoy his music. Similarly, I have an interest in certain time periods before I was born (I love Art Nouveau, for example) and sometimes wish I could visit those for a bit. Maybe it's the same for those kids?

Actually my rant was somewhat invalidated by the number of helpful posts in the time it took me to write that.

Love you guys, carry on! heart

I'm-new-threads wouldn't be such a bother if some people would just get the sticks removed from their asses, dropping a link takes like 10 seconds. Waving around cm.org flags on 8bc and then stomping on new people is bigot shit.

Yes, there's a search function. Yes, I prefer people to use it instead of making new threads. Doesn't mean I need to devolve into a troglodyte when someone doesn't.

Also, I loathe that fucking 4chan mentality of ganging up on someone a lot more than a missed search.

Hi!

There's some useful threads stickied in this forum. Try this one for starters:

Interesting discussion.

As for the playlist, I think DI creates a poll-thread in the forums whenever a song is first played in the stream:

..which is like a playlist, kinda.

cm.org needs an 8bc fallout shelter

I agree with 4mat, VSTi are a nice way to explore the timbre if you're already familiar with DAWs. On the other hand, limited trackers like Fami provide an insight on why certain techniques have developed (eg. arps). Still, I'd also advice to go software first before investing into hardware. It's easy to acquire and free.

This stickied thread here provides some good answers and resources:
http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/3988/ … hip-music/

A stickied thread is usually stickied at the top of a forum because the moderators deemed it to be useful. You'll still have to read it, though.

Most of the software mentioned therein has tutorials, sometimes even in the form of a video-tutorial. There's a website called "youtube" you can search for keywords, like "famitracker tutorial", for example. Like so:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q … arch_type=

If you can't find what you are looking for there, a multitude of search-engines (websites which index other websites by keyword and order them by popularity and relevance) is available which you can use. The most popular one is called "Google". Here's an exemplary link:
http://www.google.de/search?q=milkytracker+tutorial

Finally, this forum also provides a search function (located in the upper right-hand corner) which may be used for a keyword based search. There's a wealth of information on just anything about chipmusic to be found. Internet forums serve also as a repository of knowledge, aside from their social function.

If you have further questions, feel free to ask. Just remember to make use of the aforementioned services too, and do not be discouraged should the results not match your expectations on the first try; as a musician, I am sure you're familiar with the process and reward of refining results.

Good luck and have fun!

Sorry if I missed something but did anyone mention what we can do to get the music taken down?

You know what? On second thought, legal course of action = SOPA, PIPA, and every other copyright law being debated right now. The only way to really fight this website is a DDS.

No. SOPA/PIPA would have allowed copyright holders to force a DNS block on sites they don't like. Without court action or reason.

Seriously.

There are already laws in place to protect IP, which is fine. In case of these guys, they violated your license, so you could try to file a case.

Of course, the legal apparatus only works if you've got the money to keep it going. And yeah, trans-country legal action is a serious pain in the ass.
