it doesnt help that most of the hype ones come from people who i havent heard of before and i suspect most members would say the same

Where's the Bit Shifter Hype Thread FFS?!

Auxcide wrote:

Curious, where would you want them to post these 'hype' threads?

The Graveyard.

I'm glad to learn that it was at the very least discussed.
I, for one, blacklist anyone who posts hype threads: I will never ever listen to anything released by that individual.

You're a meanie.

We're all in agreement here.

OK, so a Frostbyte section with the option of ignoring it.

Or a Frostbyte section.

All that "hyping" a release with previews and whatevs in the releases section is annoying.
Releases should be for RELEASES, not "Well I think I might be releasing something at some point, in the meantime can you all suck my dick a lil'? Please?".
But then, I'm a meanie.
Discuss.

The thing is, neither of us are really in a position to mandate what the site is or isn't

Welcome to chipmusic.org, an online community in respect and relation to chip music, art and its parallels. We are working hard to add features that will indubitably inspire and encourage our community, but feel free to join us now as we aim to find a comfortable balance between the ethereal and nonsensical.

"inspire and encourage our community"
not
"represent and promote chipmusic to the world"

I also like the last bit which could be translated as "chill out".

This is not the site's mandate, and I don't reckon it'd be better if it were. Netlabels and events are there to promote chipmusic

I mean it is my understanding that this is a forum by and for the people interested in chipmusic, not a perfect representation of the chipmusic community to The World. This is not a PR site, right?

Where does it say that everyone posting should do so in a way that furthers the education of the general population on the topic of chipmusic?
