are there any logos or anything that looks like a manufacturer's ID in that instruction manual?  a lot of times the same model is picked up by several manufacturers.  clones of clones.

unlocking it and removing all/most the chinese software package would be the first thing i'd do, install the official store if you wish (which is tricky a lot of the time).  or just install apps if you can transfer them to memory via USB and leave the store alone.  preferably its got SD abilities

knowing what the chipset is would really help knowing what you could do with it.  do the instructions have this info?  maybe "rockchip" and some #s?

but, before you erase anything....  PLEASE go and listen/watch all the random media they include on them.  i've found some totally weird stuff before, a lot of it is pop music though.  one particular chinese girl group lately on chinese knock-offs, but i can't remember their name.   girl generation maybe?

found it

that thread has some of the banter about CPU-02 issues.

sorry to derail your thread...  since yours isn't this model type then i wouldn't worry about it, i just wanted to rule it out for you in case.

DMG-CPU-02 boards with a -B revision CPU (i may be wrong, but i think all -02 boards would have a rev. -B CPU, but the attempts to build a 'master list' of that stuff (matched to front PCBs) didn't work out from what i recall)

those have known audio quality issues.  i *think* someone (animalstyle?) might have found a capacitor mod (or a bypass) that solves the issues....  but i really haven't thought about this particular thing in such a while, its wayyyy buried here i think, i could have made this all up in a dream really.

thats just my own operational info i guess...  DMG-CPU-02 boards + -B CPUs aren't so awesome.

found a sort of interesting CPU database website, with -B on it: http://www.cpupages.com/store/index.php?id_item=1425

^ ok, just wanted to rule out a particular bug for you,

carry on smile

would you mind taking the battery cover off your game boy, looking through the squarish hole where that clasp snaps in, and reading the text off the PCB right there?

it'll say DMG-CPU-0x

whats the 'x'?

my ex felted me one (sewed sheets of felt together to fit the dmg, then added felted artwork to this with a  felting needle).  it turned out super nice.

i'd really love if someone crafty would do a crochet pattern for the dmg size, with a flap-down top.  crochet (once you learn) is pretty easy to pump stuff out quickly

use a higher rated resistor.  it will lower the brightness

time to research this a bit!

thanks for looking!

got these photos from Timbob, i asked if i could show them off, so i'm gonna.  looks pretty awesome to me

white/black gradient, inside-out painted clear green case

just to hijack your thread a little, and promo your stuff...  just put these up in the shop

just got some of your felt cases (modded consoles) from loomis...

they feel really, really good to hold.  so nice, especially with this cold setting in for the winter here...

tbh they're much nicer than i anticipated.  you really paid a lot of attention to the details...  good job!

that furb(o)y is a little frightening though!  i can see a couple different faces in it...  and its making my allergies bad tongue

added to drop-down menu here, if anyone is interested

http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/ga … -cartridge

something microtonal, or involving non-western scaling at least

(so a ravi tribute comp can happen)

actually, no, i'm changing my mind.

LOGO for Game Boy.  with PS/2 keyboard function via link port (for entering the commands)

in 256kb rom size or less, so cheap(er) carts with no mapping can be used on hardware tongue

edit -- just realized you wanted music only ideas....  nevermind.  or just add a musical interpretive element to scan and play back the design the turtle draws.  like an old player-piano would do...  or if you musically read an etch-a-sketch

i like this.

a generative something would be pretty cool.  maybe with a basic menu to set the parameters (sound design, algorithmic determinators, etc)
