I absolutely love the interface of piggy but I'd like some more functionality (read: duh) (fantasy list ftw!).  This is a stretch because I have absolutely no experience with programming, but if I had a couple months (years is what its going to take) to learn a language for the specific purpose of implementing functionality in piggy, developing an add-on, or separate music production application with the same simple lsdj aesthetic...

1) What programming language would I use/learn? (Cross-platform application would be dope, but I'm looking for ease of use/ audio engine libraries)

        - Some of these modular environments (Synthedit, Reaktor, Max) are pretty dope but would they integrate with piggy or even function as standalone applications?

2) Is piggy open-source? (searched all over, couldn't find a definitive answer)
3) How do I get the source code? (I thought I read somewhere here that it comes in the download)

Bottom line, as producers/users, it is very easy to find places where new functionality could be implemented, but I would like to equip myself with the skills to close the gap between what I want a platform to do, and what I can help it achieve.  Every time I sit down to bang out a beat, I end up drawing interfaces and thinking of functions instead.  I'll take it as a sign.  Trying to turn pipe dreams into piped audio. Ya dig, pig?

EDIT: question 2 + 3 answered, feel free to hijack as a homebrew dev thread

I think my on-the-spot resampling is a very good idea, but I have no clue how feasible it would be.

This is up there on my list, have no clue what it would take, but if there was a way to render a phrase/chain down a file path into the samplelib, that would be a great way of achieving resample functionality.  Again, have no clue how intensive that would be to program or process.

Top three (besides resample, in this order) :

- Reverb with Size, Time, Predelay, and Wet/Dry (a reverb algorithm seems incredibly difficult to program though, and very processor intensive)
- ADSR with commands for automation. (Perhaps, ENVA, ENVD, ENVS, ENVR?)
- Ping-Pong loop mode

I suppose its all a matter of centralizing functionality to make the piggy as versatile as possible.  I only post the functions of which I don't think there's a workaround.  I'm not lazy, I swear!

Would be down to pitch in for development of certain functionality. The pig is too valuable/awesome to begin with!

I thought google was only crappy in China. anyway - skip the middle man. using a keyboard is pointless imo. cos you use it for a day - release its shit and that you really want an arduinoboy with MGB.

what? no I want an LSDJ Keyboard lol.

Most of the reason why I hate forums.

I'm reppin' the IE! What's the LA chip scene like?  PM me, so I don't hijack the thread.

So, now there's an appointed chiptune 1% as well.  Lovely.

I've heard good piggy tracks.

Really? where?  I love the pig, but I've yet to hear anything whose quality is on par with other sample-based tracks.  Hexawe is awesome, but I've yet to hear anything that compares with modern sample-based music, imo.  Not that I'm one to talk, just a listener's opinion. The moment Marc adds reverb and ADSR, it may get there.

To OP - piggy actually would be a great starting place if you want a similar interface, actually there's nothing better in that case, by mere virtue of the fact that you could bounce down x number of instruments to piggy's 8 tracks.  You could even maintain your phrase/chain structure.  I find even 8 tracks of samples to be limiting without a native resample feature.  Live is awesome, but I hardly have the money for my first DMG, let alone the Lite or Suite versions.  And I would never condone piracy in a public venue.

SOLUTION: It just dawned on me that you can sync LSDj and ableton manually. You have to press start on your Game Boy at the right moment and then maybe fiddle with track delays in ableton. ME IS DISCJOCKEY.
My arduinoboy apparently not receiving midi data is another matter entirely, I will look into that in the future.

No offense, and I too have been giving this quite a bit of thought, but how could this be a viable solution?  Manual sync seems like a disservice to any material you care about.

Also lsdj clock is gonna drift on its own. Its not rock stable and will drift under heavy cpu load. Slaving it makes it a wee bit tighter.

I suspect this is a hardware issue, and the problem would not carry over to emulators.  Is that the case?

Not toally sure how it works in VBA, however, in bgb, it's quite simple.  Right click on slave instance, click link in the drop down and select listen and click OK.  tHen, click on the master instance, click link, and select connect, then OK.  Boom, 2xlsdj.

I'm just beginning my journey into chiptune via lsdj/bgb with every intention of not producing material that actually sounds like chiptune.  These artists are a great inspiration.  Would it be possible to achieve this sound in lsdj exclusively, or does the ambient/shoegaze vibe require external effects?  Most definitely a matter of opinion, but I'm curious about what those opinions might be.  I produce music in the chillwave vein, so I'm looking at how this sound could transfer over to the 8-bit platform, if at all. Especially for genres that are still ambient, but more sample-based.

Noob alert:  How do I run an .ips file?

It seems like an advantage of an emulator is being able to link more than 2 instances. Is this possible?  I'm currently using bgb and haven't got it to work, but it doesn't seem unreasonable to have a single master and as many slaves as your processor can handle.
