How's the playback? I imagine this uses CD-Rs and not real CDs.

Um I looked into Kunaki and they have a legit CD manufacturing facility so these are NOT CD-Rs.

EDIT: IT'S HERE!

Hello all,

As you might know, I've made a few tracks with Warioware DIY, some of which you can hear on this site: Side Quest, Feeding Time Is Over. I also made this video on using Warioware DIY's Record-Maker-Matic. I'd like to see more people making music with the Record-Maker-Matic, so I figured a compilation would be a great way to get everyone in gear! So here's the rub:

Label: Dual Mode Records
Title: MEGA micromusic

Rules:

- One track per artist
- Each track must be at least 1 minute long
- Pure Warioware DIY, do not combine with anything else and do not post process (see exception below)*
- You must send me a WAV. You can use my Soundcloud dropbox or your favorite file sharing site (or if it's less than 20 MB, email it to me). Email me at contact [at] mappdev [dot] com once you have a track uploaded
- Deadline is Nov. 14, or as soon as I get 8 entries!

Advice:

The style of music is completely up to you. You are not obligated to use retro instruments or create something that sounds 8bit. Remember to tweak volume levels and panning per-instrument to get the best possible sound. You are free to import patterns from other records as long as the final track is your own original work (or your own remix). Unless you are submitting a song you've already uploaded, please do not upload your song to 8bc before the release is out.

* post-processing exception: the in-game record player makes noises when you hit buttons, like play/stop/etc. This is annoying to say the least. One way to avoid having this sound in the beginning and end of your song is to have some quiet space in the first and last pattern (the entire pattern could be empty). You are then allowed to delete these from the final WAV. You are also allowed to fade in the intro and fade out the ending. That's it!

I will be curating all tracks and promoting this comp through various outlets. If you would like to take a stab at the cover art, contact me via the above address, otherwise I'll be doing it. Post in this thread if you plan to submit a track.

Artists in so far:

- Decktonic [accepted]
- Peach [accepted]
- T.M.HECTOR [accepted]
- El Huesudo II [accepted]
- Sergio [accepted]
- mathgrant [accepted]
- Bamboori [accepted]

However, I do not have a clear and succinct reason for why I suddenly disliked the tunes, other than that I simply listened to them too much. Now, some music is actually good enough for an entire day of listening, just not this one.

Most of the album is a little too cheesy for me, but I love Whale. Yesterday I listened to it all day... just this one song... over and over. By the end of the day I was in fact tired of it. But that's what happens when you listen to the same thing over and over. It's still one of my favorite songs.

Nanoloop and NESynth are two great options.

But, hey, Decktonic, I have a buddy who makes a living completely off of dj'ing.  Know how he started?  Doing one free gig after another until shit fell together.

Yeah I hear that and I'm willing to do that, I just need to know who and where, you know what I mean? I live in Lametown, NJ and I would like gigs in NYC or Philly but those are packed places and I am having trouble figuring out how to start.

In other news, if anyone here knows an agent or agency in Philly / NYC / central NJ that I should contact, let me know. Still not able to find stuff via the Internet sad

I have to go to some stupid birthday party that night... ugh, why do I have friends?

If you're actually an alright DJ, you could probably bluff your way into an agency.

OK so now I just have to know, what is an agency? I've never heard of these.

You said the magic word - DJ.

I know DJs that have tripled their gigs and doubled their fees overnight by getting on board with an agency.

What if my numbers are currently 0? or wait, I did have 1 gig at a college bar... so now I'll have 3 gigs and I'll make $60 + 4 free drinks at each one?

No, in all seriousness, this is what I need.

You made my day. Seriously, my day was garbage until I heard this excellent rendition of heartfelt blues. Thank you so much.

Put it this way... If I was someone like Unicorn Kid or David E Sugar, I would have an agency and a manager. That is how you get massive festival spots and international acclaim in "secular society". However, a lot of us don't fit into that hole and have far less need for an agent or manager.

I want to do really commercial friendly house / electro in both DJing and playing live, so hopefully I can justify the typical route... I am still curious to hear from people in the USA, because so far it sounds like everything is better across the ponds.

The thing that a successful manager has is CONNECTIONS. They are on the phone all the time, chattin it up and making deals and etc. They don't really perform any one task that isn't covered by someone else (promoter, journalist, booking agent, etc etc) but rather they are the people that dabble in all areas and get you in touch with these specialty people to get the job done. Nothing that can't be done by anyone's own DIY effort, but they've been in the business long enough and know enough people to easily make things happen. That is my experience.

Yeah I'm looking for 1 person to start out, I'm willing to pay, I just need someone with connections that can get me a few gigs, enough that I can have a feel for it.

You want to know someone's experience, or you're curious what they do?

I want to know people's experience. Also advice for someone who wants to start out DJing in NYC and Philly. Also things like contacting newspapers and radio stations, I've been able to figure out blogs easily enough but on the rest I'm still stumped.
