And I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Alanya Spring and Bitblaster are two of my favorite songs from 2012.

At least 2 people were convinced to start with LSDJ after Nintendoom. I received messages asking where to get carts and how to make bassdrums.

Another year or two and we'll have a Belgian scene. All thanks to nordloef, x critical strike x, sabrepulse, chipzel, wiklund and fantomenk!

People wanting to get in to LSDJ != people actually getting somewhere with it.

In Holland there are actually pretty much people making chipmusic but as far as my own region goes it's only cerror and I.

basing your opinion on a handfull of tracks on this website seems a bit silly.

Jep.

I agree with your vision but saying chiptunes is synonymous with low quality and then only showing a couple of songs from cm.o is really a barrelvision. There is still a lot of great chipmusic being released, just not on cm.o perse.

And it is just what I said earlier, it is easy to make shitty chiptunes and because cm.o (and some others) offer a platform to discuss and release this music people tend to release faster I guess.

Hearing this music and wanting to make it yourself is easy as you can start making it without spending shitloads of money on instruments and what not. It is also easy getting notes out of for example a gameboy, where learning an instrument is a lot harder when you haven't got feeling for it.

I don't know how much this song qualifies as chiptune, it is not only the best one in the genre but also the best tune ever (in my opinion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45l3UAsEQs8

You know the original composition is a Zelda soundtrack right?

But it is a good tune, I like the samples and vibe.

What you are describing is the typical perception of people INSIDE the scene, but it does not line up with how the general public perceives chipmusic. The truth is, outside of forums like cm.o, most people just know the hits: Bit Shifter, Sabrepulse, Bright Primate, stuff like that. Stuff that has been featured in a big way because it's very well done. Most people don't know about this forum... cm.o is just a scene thing. Most people go to 8bp or Pause or Ubiktune, download a few really good releases and say "yeah this is cool."

so I'm going to give the same advice I always give: don't assume your perception of chipmusic lines up with how most people perceive it.

Subjective any way. Music that is featured in a big way doesn't have to be well done per se, it just has to have certain aspects that will speak up for a big group of people. Nofi against Bit shifter, sabrepulse and Bright of course!

Every music has it's shit, although chiptunes are easy accessible to create without having to buy expensive instruments and stuff. And that doesn't even say it all, because there's a lot of shit being made on physical instruments as well.

Wow that interview was great I loved how you told the story about your pet kitten cat I also have a pet but it is not a kitten cat it is a dog a little dog called pixel actually because pixels are small and this dog is quite small as well so hence the name reference I like it a lot and would like to take credit for coming up with the name but my girlfriend made it up so that is why I can't take credit for it and I like your C64 demoscene story as well although I haven't come across you on evoke or revision last years so you should visit that and we can drink beck and eat sausage while watching demos.

OK, I've just finished it today (gear: Atari 520ST) but don't want to spread it too much, because it's for our concert in May:
