What do you mean here:

A real OPL chip in a 5"x8" package.

Haha..I did this a few times with my versions. Programming the atmega fuses before setting up my ftdi clock output. It scares you if nothing else...

How sure are you of your programmer?

I dont tnink I will be doing another. I am sending about ten more to kitsch once the shells arrive and he will be selling them until they are gone. I have other larger projects to work on, things of my own design. wink

how does it work?

The CPU performs manipulations of bits and bytes at addresable memory locations. Each process requires no thought per se. It will do no more or no less than it would in a single clock cycle when the speeds are altered.

The only time you see different reactions to the limited commands is when it starts losing data or accessing data before it actually gets to the specific locations.

Yea but with a lobotomized cpu, v commands may very well cause crashes as they can be very cpu intensive.

wouldn't the cpu have more time to think?

Lol, not exactly how it works.:P

A lot of frequencies are filtered out with many cheap sound systems and even more headphones. I can't listen to chip on the go at all...my phone sounds that bad.

how about comparing the sound outputs with an amp. The headphone jack should be quieter than the "pro-sound" coming from an audio amplifier. In any case, the quality is what you were aiming for, so in all honesty it was a success.

Just adding I ended up completing the mod today. Drilled a hole and did it the common way, so I can still use headphones through the old port. But I plugged in headphones to the new port and they worked perfectly fine? You said this shouldn't be normal

Quieter unless you did it wrong.

Hmm.

That is only a temporary fix though, and a pricey one at that. Dead or otherwise, a gba will be 50 cents which is also high for two tactile switches.

The point is that we can easily find a drop-in replacement part which will help others in the future.

Get me a close up of two sides of the original button and I can try to find some.

My guess is CPU-08 because of the vectorized, sans-serif text. The only 07 I have found has proportional serif text on the silk.

I plan on blogging about some of the subtle aesthetic differences from board to board. For example, 07 has square corners on the ground pour whereas my 08's have chamfered corners. My 07 has a larger CPU blob, but only by a mm or two. 'ONE' of my 08's has gold pins on the link port; the others all have silver.  This particular board also has a large "C" screened in the middle above the CPU which is not present in any other board. One 08 has a dark pine-green solder mask, and the others have a light green.

Then there are the great differences between the earlier revisions and the 07/08's.

Off to work. sad

I think it's this way from board revision 06 on. All PiL gameboys have it, for sure.

Nope, only 07 and 08. I have a dozen 08s and have had a dozen more over the years, but have had only one 07 ever. Same board though, slightly differing silk screen.
