Bingo, yep, they are glued down tight, it's not really necessary at all, but I don't think it'll hurt.

haha in which way? Just because of that "awesome" soldering job, or just the fact it's smt? smile

Just the fact that it's SMT and it will take physical stress through use. What about putting little wings on the cart connector to screw it to the PCB?

I have them fixed to the boards well, I promise you that haha

They aren't fixed using solder only wink

The mounting tabs have to be removed for GB games to fit, but I can assure you I've found a VERY strong way of mounting them wink haha

As for the pre-ordering, I'm in talks with Kitch atm, so I'll let you know soon!

The plan (hopefully) is that Kitch will supply them for everywhere but Australia. But as I said, were still talking!

cool!, although I have to say the surface mounted cart connector gives me the willies.

Hmm.

Hmm. Thoughts?

Also, not sure if I have mentioned yet, but of course I take no credit for the initial design which this is based on, which was of course created by the two polish students.

Both Kitch and I have been trying to get in touch with them, to no avail, so if anyone knows a current email or any contact info it would be much appreciated!

wink excuse the messy hand soldering, was done hastily since this is just for QA

All others will be 90% Hot Air / IR done.

Thanks for the correction Jazz! Haven't been opening up as many gameboys lately as I used to. wink

Hey DaRkO, what revision is the one in question, anyway?

08 Mate!

I have a stack more here which I'll be checking also and I'll post up results as I go.

Jazz, this one has gold link port contacts too.

I think it's this way from board revision 06 on. All PiL gameboys have it, for sure.

Not in Australia apparently, I have had quite a few PiL's but never seen this style of board, this particular one is out of a regular DMG.

Yeah, some of them are like that.  I guess they got more modern with it.  I wonder what it looks like under the blob of, whatever that stuff is???

Haha it's crazy, after all the consoles I've had, modified and taken apart, this was the first one I've seen like it.

Nothing amazing, just the same chips in COB (Chip On Board) instead of packages, so it's the die directly wired to the board and covered in epoxy, but still unusual smile

Title says it all.

I'll just leave this here.

Awesome, might even give me something new to play around with over Christmas wink

Oh boy, just got a nice shipment of pirate carts.

I just love these things so much.

Expect some new pictures in the coming days! big_smile

Well, seems a few of us are all thinking on the same wavelength! I have one of these in my "almost ready to manufacture" folder haha!

Using a QSB too! Ahh we must all be linked telepathically tongue

It can be, I've just been too busy to give it anytime right now, have some other projects going.
