I have a hard time composing at all. Interestingly enough, however, I find writing with trackers to be easier than any other method I've tried.

And the Golden Saga continues...

Glad to see the OPL3 getting some love!

Is this for real!?! If they can nail it, I will worship Korg forever.

I have no faith in Roland at this point.  I'd rather just get a x0xb0x or something, and samples. Maybe MSSIAH and 8580 SID smile

And so, the saga of failure continues... Seriously though. -_-

adlib tracker II . i still dont understand that shit.

Funny, I love AT2 more than any other tracker. I can hardly even use any others because of how comfortable I am with it. I just love its interface. But... I'd probably say Renoise is not very good to start on. Not that it isn't capable... far from it. It just seems very overwhelming, especially for a beginner. Hell, I still can't get it lol.

My first tracker was Milkytracker though. I like it now, but I remember hating it to death when I was learning. I still like it more than Renoise...

I'm really digging this.

Gonna be honest here

I just used one of those online username generators. I didn't think a name was that important

Haha, me too! In a way. I just wanted to see how ridiculous the results would be... but then I saw this one and thought it was awesome.

They're all practically the same though haha. It's just like "oh wow, this one's even MORE of a pain in the ass to program."

Now sick hybrid digital shit like the ESQ-1, crosswave junk, phase distortion, and the crapload of other hype-sounding 80s digi synths? Hell yeah. Collect em all!

Ha! You're probably right... I'm just blinded by my love of FM technology. RENEGADE 4 LIFE!!!  But all synths in general are seriously collectible. I'm pretty sure that if I had my way, my house would become a giant modular synth.

I guess it's mostly nostalgia for me. I played a lot of game boy and dos games, and listened to their soundtracks everywhere, so those sounds mean a lot to me. They sorta became representative of various events in my life. So I came to the logical conclusion that, since I love these soundchips so much, I should try to write music of my own with them. But I love listening to other people's stuff here, because it's usually awesome, and it's all the sounds I love without the headache of composing them myself on a soulless tracker. But I digress. The community is quite rad indeed.

I never really liked anything above gen 3... but I did buy HeartGold. I don't have a 3ds anyway, so that kinda rules it out for me. I'm probably gonna spend my money on a DX7. SOON. FM synths are kinda like Pokemon; gotta catch 'em all!

I find myself agreeing with a lot of the posts here. I have trouble finishing songs as well; I've only ever finished one, and it's god-awful. But... I always come back to writing my pathetic loops, because I love the sound of synths and old soundchips I guess. I can't help but think that songwriting isn't for me, though. What do you do if you simultaneously love and hate what you do?

I'm really tempted to buy one of these... A pocket-sized analog synth sounds pretty sweet.

I can't really give much constructive criticism(not so great at composition myself), but it seems SketchMan3 did a pretty good job of summing things up anyway. But I will say that I liked it; it has good potential. And there's always room for more Milkytracker!
