Would you be willing to open it up and take one good picture? I just want to be sure it has all the components.

First thing I've noticed is every single board we've either had a link to or taken a picture of is completely different, along with the components.

Mine has quite a few holes for components to be in that are empty, but I have no means of testing it currently... Maybe someone could tell me if the components are missing needed to send midi?

Here are my pictures

Sorry for the terrible image quality as well

Hey folks,

I've put out 2 EPs now of my LSDJ-backed guitar music under the name Portopak at http://portopak.bandcamp.com.

In case that description I just provided isn't evidence enough, I really have a hard time trying to describe my music or come up with an accurate RIYL list of artists. The first EP I called "chiptune punk," because it seemed to fit okay for most of the tracks, but my second release doesn't really follow the same style.

Anyone have any suggestions for either an appropriate genre-labeling or RIYL?

And hell, while I'm at it, how does the new EP, "Only Nineteen-Ninety-Nine," sound to everyone? I'm really happy with the production compared to the first one.

If you look at the Wikipedia page for chipmusic, then look around through similar genres (usually at the ends of articles) you should find a whole lot of specific genre names/labels.  I can't specifically recall names, but I remember seeing names similar to what you describe.

I'm looking for ideas based around building custom project boxes. I was wondering what ideas or projects other people created (or saw somewhere) as far as an attractive, or nice looking box design.

Personally, I'm working on a box that will have Gameboys mounted in the front of it (sort of like the one made by MEOW).  I thought about having an acrylic box, but I personally feel as if it won't look that great.

Basically, I'm just looking for enclosure ideas.

Thanks!

I'm currently ordering one.

In the meantime, could someone explain how to use/send midi with this?

I figured I'd bump this because knowledge is power. I've purchased three of these inexpensive USB to MIDI cables from this guy and have had nothing but great results:

I've been able to send clock signals, send MIDI to various pieces of gear and send Sysex data. Just thought I'd help if anyone else is doubting cheap cables.

Thanks for the link, I may buy one smile

Thanks for all the input guys!

By the way, Guitar Center is having a pedal month sale going on currently.

What kind of guitar pedals would work well with a gameboy setup?  I've never really bought any before and am looking into effects and extras.

I bought some RGBbb backlights from kitsch and ended up with two broken Gameboys. (My error)
While trying to remove the polarization film, I believe I broke the connections in the ribbon cable for the rows of pixels across the screen, I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem, as it was extremely hard to remove the film without flipping the screen over.

Should I have just lifted it up a bit and tried to pull the polarization film off while the film was still facing down?

iirc the Arduinoboy software makes MIDI IN to the Gameboy also double as MIDI THRU via the MIDI OUT port.

That's what I was thinking

Thanks for the help, I'll look more into it once I get home.

(I'm on a school computer currently, and basically every website with info on this kind of stuff is blocked)

Is midi thru a thing on arduinoboys?  I've heard it's only used in the midi mode for LSDj, but I'll be using mine strictly for mGB.  If it can be of any use with mGB, could someone explain how to incorporate into an arduinoboy?

Be sure to remove the existing pot before soldering a new one to the terminals.

Will do

Oh cool!

There's a 30k pot on the LCD board section of the schematics, I'm guessing that's it.

Ok, thanks for the help!

Also, do you know what pot the contrast knob is?
