Hi there,
Has anyone experience with making an Arduino boy with the Arduino micro pro? I would be interested to know if the PCB could fit inside the box of one of those cheap USB to MIDI cables sold on eBay. If so I would be able to use the supplied cables and midi connectors provided instead of using sockets.

My ultimate goal is to make a compact a cable as possible.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Liam

Thank you everyone for your reply. In response to 'kid versus chemical' - I dont actually use any software for sounds. Only sequencing. Ive had a variety of synths, drum machines & samplers over the years. But currently my setup is: Roland TR8, TB3, Korg EMX, Boss SP303, Korg Volca sample, Yamaha RM1x & RS7000. Im planning on selling the RM1x, RS7000 & EMX though. Im pretty hot on LSDJ so I dont think a MIDI sequencer on the ST should be too hard. My MIDI interfaces are Midisport 2x2, Roland UM ONE. Both give pretty shit results. 1ms jitter sounds very appealing to me.

Hi all,
I had posted over in the Atari forum about MIDI sequencing on an ST but I am now also interested in the Amiga.

What is the Amiga like for MIDI out timing and jitter. This has been my main problem when sequencing my hardware from a PC. What packages are available that support external midi sequencing and are they any good? My program of choice is Renoise so anything similar would be ideal.

I post here as I am currently working deep sea and unable to do much research on the internet as my connection is VERY VERY limited.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think the best plan for me is to get an emulator when im next at land then try out some of the music packages.

Can anyone recommend a good emulator and music programs that I would be interested in.

My list to try is currently:

Cubase
Notator
Maxymiset

Anymore suggestions?

Renoise is my favourite sequencer. Is there anything similar to this that is good. Sorry, my internet is very limited at sea so it is difficult for me to research without asking. Is notator a tracker?

Thank you for your replies. Which of the MIDI sequencing programs use the hi res mode? This will dictate my choice of display.

Thank you for your replies. Just to clear something up: Is an STe 1040 with 4MB or RAM the same as an STe 520 with 4MB of RAM?

Is maxYMiser good as a MIDI sequencer? Im wanting to buy an ST to take advantage of the tight MIDI timing to control my hardware with.

Does anyone have their hooked up to a flatscreen monitor? If so, what is the quality like and how did you get it to work?

Greetings all,
It has been a while since I last posted here.

Intro:
I have played around with hardware drum machines, synths and samplers for about 10 years but when it comes to finally sequencing the song on a computer there has always been some technical issue that got in the way from completing most of my work. I would end up pulling my hair out and rarely got anything finished. It wasn't until recently that I finally worked out what most of my issues were with. MIDI timing and jitter!! I have been through 10 years worth of computers and MIDI interfaces, all of which have had some sort of timing issue, ultimately ruining the flow of my work. I have never been interested in soft synths so didnt go down that route. My best expeience with music is actually LSDJ! Compared to what ive used before; it is flawless and super tight!

Ive decided to take the plunge and buy an Atari ST after reading that it still has the best MIDI timing. 1ms! The lowest I have been able to achieve with a windows PC is around 10ms. And thats with a clean install of XP/7, MOTU interface, Renoise. It just sounds like a DISASTER!

I work deep sea so my internet is very very limited. Alot of sites I can not view so hence the reason for posting here.

My Requirements:
- Must have at least 1 MIDI out
- Be able to be modified to output to VGA, Scart or HDMI.
- Tight MIDI timing
- Good tracking software

Which ST would you recommend for me? I only really plan to use it as a MIDI sequencer but may use it later for some synth sounds. Im not sure yet.

What the main differences between the models? I don't necessarily  need the best one as I sometimes like working with constraints, but I would like to know the options. Im not really fussed about the cost but it would be nice to know the prices also.  Im in the UK.

I see an Atari STFM 1040 for sale in the UK. Is this a good option?

Doing modifications isn't a problem. Im an electrical engineer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

:-)

Great, I'll buy one of the keyboards then. Seems like buying the port is the way to go if you don't already own a link cable though. Most of them are around $5-10. Plus, the cabling will be much cleaner.

Send me a PM with your country and I will give you a final price.

I would suggest getting the link cable if you have the electrical skills. As it is soldered onto the board inside it gives a much better end result. If you havent soldered before I wouldnt suggest it as you may get confused when fault finding which cables go where.

The photos I have shown of this item are actually old ones when I was building the unit. I have used it extensively since then whilst traveling the world.

I'm interested.
What's the preferred method for making one of these? It looks like it's just splicing a link cable and the keyboard cable together. Is there a cleaner way?
[Edit]
Looks like Kitsch has a product I'd be interested in: http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/easy_ps-2
Looks p nice. No need for an external power supply for the keyboard then?

Hi there,
I bought 3 of the mini black keyboards shown in the photograph below. I was intending to make 3 keyboards out of them and sell 2. I have finished one but not started the other two and am therefore selling them. I bought them at a computer shop and selling them for the price I paid.

They are USB/PS2 keyboards perfect for LSDJ. Boxed and in brand new condition

I am looking for £10 plus postage.

Hi there, I got an SP from a friend. The battery was dead so I bought a replacement. But I think it must be a poor battery as it doesnt last long. Can anyone recommend a reputable seller for an SP battery? Im in the UK

OMG!!! thank you sooooo much! I fixed it! For some reason FL studio MIDI code when play is pressed is: 'start, stop, continue, midi clock, midi clock'. that would explain why it starts slow then speeds up. Why would FL studio output this?

I filtered it so it only output MIDI clock. This is a great program. thankfully I use XP.

Ive tried midi ox and can get lsdj to play find when testing it in midi ox. I dont know how to monitor the output of FL studio though. It must output something weird.
