I hate the carts with the ugly bulge on the top. The thing I really like about the DD carts is that I can swap it into a standard game case

I do a lot of lost wax casting with silicone molds and have been toying with the idea of making a silicone cart mold and making myself a sterling silver cart. I think that would look absolutely slick. I'm glad to see someone else has had success with the mold making using silicone.

I want a metallic purple cart shell when your mold is perfected. I am churning an idea inside my head since frosting donuts at work... make molds out of plaster and drizzle them with molten silver let cool and fill the rest of the way with plastic... could be cool if i get the setup hot enough.
you said cast in resin? is that what you made molds from, Chronoseptor?

I'm not a huge fan or plaster casting personally; it's messy and I don't like the way it smells, I like using Room-temp vulcanizing silicone for the mold, it's easy to cut, seals together well and is flexible so getting your cast out is a lot easier. I find it has a longer shelf life than a plaster mold as well and can stand up to more abuse. I don't, however, know how it will hold up to the extreme temps needed to liquify silver (I thnk in the 1700 degres F) and I don't know off the top of my head what the heat resistance of silicone is...

PianoGB,
Thanks for the heads up, I sent them a PM.

Timbob,
No worries, I assumed you just didn't find anything =P

Chronosepter,
Those look pretty rad, not quite what I'm shooting for but it's cool that you can make custom carts, did you make a resin mold or something for those?

Appreciate the responses guys.

Hey guys,
I have been looking for one of the pink Tamagotchi game carts for a while and haven't had any luck; I have found a few bundled with the gameboys they come with but I really am not looking to pay that much for the cart I want and a DMG I don't.

If anyone has one they would be willing to sell I would be happy to pay a reasonable price, considering they are fairly rare. Condition is important to me here as well, I would like one that isn't badly damaged or scratched and that isn't stained or discolored in anyway that couldn't be cleaned.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, coincidentally the exact same one I was eyeing as well. Although a radial membrane would be slick to mount around the d-pad... Depending on the clearance. I read that the default 'no touch' is about %30 of the range on the softpot strips. I wonder if you could parallel one with a standard pot and have a switch between the two..? I don't know enough about creating circuits to know if that would be reasonable. And I don't know enough about modding DMGs to know if there would be enough space to allow that.

The E sign is not even from the gameboy era as far I can tell.

Yeah, ESRB wasn't established till like '93/'94 but they were still making gameboy games after that so I'm sure some of them did have it.
I think the graphic might look better without the ESRB rating but it's a nice touch.

Hey WACOM, once you get a quote I would love to know the kind of numbers you are looking at, and the min print run that company expects.

Does anyone know if there are levered potentiometers?

Or has anyone used a linear or 'slide' potentiometer in their DMGs?

Edit: There are wheel pots, couldn't find anyting about lever pots.

Scratch all of that, Is anyone familiar with membrane potentiometers?

You could drill a hole half way through from the inside, and not break through. That should allow for the light to shine through I suppose.

That's a great idea! Dremel out just a little bit; It would still look clean from the outside but allow you to see the LED.

We paid to have them make a custom die in the exact size of an original cartridge label, but we were doing a bulk order so it was worth it.

Now that they have the die I wonder if they could do reasonable custom orders..?

I did exactly this. My Derpcart is now in an original gameboy shell.

Here's how the finished cart looks. I still need to clean up the LED hole.

I'm getting custom labels printed here soon, trying to make this look as much like an official nintendo cartridge as possible (I even included the ESRB rating logo. The old one they used back then. tongue )  Here's a mockup of what I'm getting printed for it.

That looks great! Yeah, a little sandpaper or an Xacto knife and that will look boss.

Funny I just saw and commented on your post about the custom label. I really like your mock-up and if you can find a printer that can get the silvering on the edges that would be awesome!

Really rad mock up WACOM! Throw up the printed label if you get it done.

This is funny. I was just talking with a friend, who has a huge printing service, about making custom labels.

I would love to be kept in the loop on this; I haven't found many great local printers for custome cart labels.

Bummer.

The cart shells don't actually match the color of the gameboy. Funnily enough though, for the second run we were going to do grey shells and when we got them back from our factory, they ended up being the grey color of a gameboy instead of the grey cart shell color, so we opted to going with clear black again.

Also, keep in mind you won't see the status LED without drilling another hole. This is another reason abrasive went with the clear black color instead.

Thanks for the heads up on the LED, I don't actually know what it indicates. I have been getting a list of things I want to get before I jump in but there is still a lot I need to learn.

I have a clear GBPiL I want to back paint white, and I have my eye on a white Jpn Tamagochi cart I really like the look of.

Apeshit wrote:

Just curious, why do you want to swap it out? Those shells were difficult to make!

I want a cart that has the 'Nintendo GameBoy' name on the concave (Silly, I know) and I want the color to match my Game Boy
