Every Christmas I would look forward to hearing the holiday music that comes from this little wall plug we have that depicts a bear with a Santa hat, playing a piano. But the best part is that is has an outlet at the bottom.

I would look forward to plugging our Christmas tree lights into this. And the lights would dim and brighten in sync with the music. It had a bunch of Christmas songs on it, including Rudolph the Red Nose, Silent Night, Greensleeves, Santa Claus Is Coming to Kill You, etc.

But this year I was disappointed to find out it was already broken and thrown away last year. :'( Last year I was at college during the holidays. I'm not only sad, but I'm mad that they would just throw away something we've had for so long. Plus, I wanted to see if there was a name on it or product code so I could get another one.

I was also planning on making a video of just this wall plug (and maybe the Christmas tree) playing the music, but now I can't do that anymore. :'( Seriously, sad I can't share this now. I don't ask for much (I don't even get presents), all I really looked forward to was this.

But... but wheres the alliteration?

Alliteration is overrated. Consonance is where it's at.

Allow myself to propose some suggestions:

Add an unusual adjective to an otherwise normal noun: Communist Pizza

Just use any word in a different language: Blood = Blut

Fuse two words together: Emogothvampire <- okay that was three words
Put your two favorite hobbies together: Ninten Kwon Do

Spell your name backwards: ...nevermind hmm

If your genre is metal, add 'Death' to anything: Deathboy, Super Deathboy, Deathboy Advance, Deathscreen, The Deathscreens, Deathtendo 64, Deathode Ray Tube <- hey, that's a good one!, Mega Death Man, Deathroom Kingdom

Spell something wrong/use capitalization: sync = SYNK

Go with the "no name" thing: Enter Your Name; or O No Not Him

Use an arbitrary game name: Bamboo.7; Justin Bailey <- yeah, not really a name, but incidentally, NARPA / NARPAS

Oh yeah, and always ALWAYS look it up to make sure it wasn't already used somewhere, damnit, Konami!

If Nintendo made a Russian roulette game for the NES, it'd probably go something like this:

My first chiptune track was made with piggy tracker and gp2x, circa 2008 when I first discovered the whole chipscene and the piggy tracker.

The first recording of this track was on my live set for Toy Company 6, I left my embarrasing intro speech for the lulz because it was my first time fronting the stage in english and I couln't do it worse xD

I thought this might be fun. Especially for the veterans here, who've probably been making chips before I even knew about emulation. As the title says, post your first chiptune (or whatever you think your first chiptune is), whatever it is: audio, native file format, video if you have one.

Here's mine: a cover of Dragon Roost Island when I used to go by Jedi QuestMaster (I still do in some places). God, how embarrassing, hmm

Now it's your turn. neutral

Yes, that means you. You're reading this, aren't you? Nobody forced you to click this topic. If you don't have one, get to it! wink

this site is mostly used by people who make chiptunes

But... I thought everyone made chipmusic, even the non-fans.

Chiptunes are more likely to get attention in a video game soundtrack.

With that said, does anybody here make chiptune music for the purpose of video games? At CMO, I feel there's a desire to distance the two.

I thought I'd let you know my progress on this so far:

I chose to stick with XPMCK. Here's the guide I've written so far. XPMCK YM2151 Guide
I'll include this template and whenever I get done with it, I'll see about making an HTML version.

Here's what I've made so far: Popcorn.vgm

As I was browsing through the collection of NSFs posted here, I reached one titled Dope John Paul II by R=V/I.

It doesn't even open when I click on it. Does this work for anyone? It was posted February 18, 2011 3:42 pm.

Thank you. I've looked into XPMCK and it looks like a giant leap, but I can see its advantages.

Luckily I've got this OPM program to test out sounds with. I think I'll write a guide as I go specifically tailored to writing MML for YM2151.

I love the music from Capcom's CPS-1 titles (Knights of the Round) and Konami's arcade games (Turtles in Time) that use the YM2151.

What options are out there to create music for this?

So far my only options (that aren't fakechip) are MLL and.... MLL. I'm willing to give this a try, but before I do, are there any tutorials/guides that help? Or, please God, a tracker? I know about Herzeleid, but that seems to be discontinued/not available anymore.

And can anyone confirm that this is YM2151? I only see OPM written on the program.

The Mafat Conspiracy if my memory serves me well, was an absolute nightmare to play. I loved the music, but the gameplay was atrocious. I was also very young.

It was much more playable than its predecessor, Top Secret Episode. Though I liked Top Secret Episode's more intricate storyline better.

Friday 13 on NES, damn son.

I wish someone would do a piano rendition of that!

One of the worst games I've played for the NES, X-Men has some music I really like in it, particularly the Practice Theme.

It always annoy me when a reviewer would erroneously bash a game's soundtrack just because the game is bad. Anyone have any soundtrack favorites from games you consider subpar or games just so obscure that no one recognizes them?

I've always had a spot for the NES Spiderman music even though the game was wonky.

Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon - okay, in my opinion, this isn't even a bad game. I think it just gets its bad rep because of its cutscenes.

This game surpassed my expectations, but Rambo for NES is usually panned by people. And the level theme rocks!

Although the port of Sonic The Hedgehog was bad for GBA, I liked the instrument choices in Marble Zone.
