Put simply.... Make music no matter what people say about it... Make it to the best of your ability and always try your hardest to keep at it and improve your skills.. and above all.. dont get stuck on a silly internet forum and never leave. There's no room to grow that way.. The same applies to the 8-bit scene... if your focus is to get heard within the scene that's not much of a stepping stone... your best bet is going to be to span out to everyone else and forget trying to make a ripple in the 8-bit community.

stay positive!

Are there any tips you guys can give me as to how i can better market myself and get my music heard?

Once you have something that is actually good, and I mean, not like, YOU think it's good, but more like, you show it to other people and they are all really impressed by it, and they tell you, "this is really good, you should send this to a record label or something," then do that, but also, send it to a bunch of relevant music blogs and try to get them to write something about you.

FFS... I'm going to say two things.

1. Soundcloud.

2. Every record label's "contact" page.

I have a folder with about 50 different record labels' contact forms / email addresses / Soundcloud dropboxes which I have gathered, over the course of a few months, with just some Google searching and Myspace / Soundcloud hopping. It's not hard. From the sounds of it, however, you shouldn't be thinking about record labels for another 6 months or so.
