It was in a goth venue. Didn't get paid, a guy shouted me to play mario's boss song, but it went ok.

My first show was May 6, 2006 at a house party in the valley near L.A.  I was pretty nervous and had a few beers before I played lol.  I also brought my bubble machine because I wanted a ton of bubbles floating around since it was going to be outdoors.  I think everyone enjoyed the bubbles.  Overall I think it went pretty good.  Here's a fuzzy clip from that night

Here is an early Hidden Village video of Cloud Sparrow and I (before I was playing solo shows as little-scale). This would have been perhaps our second chip show.

When/where was it?
it was on july 10th 2009, opening for a few friends of mine at a really sweet warehouse show.

How did it go?
all things considered, as well as it could've! did six songs and a totally half-assed yelle cover for a friend of mine, and drank about three quarters of a bottle of jim beam rye before my set was done. in all honesty, do not remember my last song AT ALL. my mind just skips straight to me carrying a table offstage. here's a super loud, shitty sounding video of my first two songs:

If you could time-travel and redo the gig, what would you do differently?
write a couple of better songs, wait until i have a second lsdj cartridge, and maybe drink less. every show i play from now on is just a sad attempt to be as drunk while performing as i was the first time.

I played with 8BK-OK, Sievert, Starpause, and IAYD @ the highball in Austin back at the end of November.  It was probably the most fun I'd had all year before blip.  SnuGG beautifully documented it all, it's all over Vimeo.
I was super nervous because I had to open, but everything went well, and everybody killed it during their sets.  We got free fancy food & alcohol, & we even got paid.  Plus I made awesome new friends.

Always love seeing you carry up massive amounts of alcohol to the stage man. Skillz!

When/where was it? (optional)
August 11, 2008 at Klein Libertas, a well-known venue in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

How did it go?
I opened for 3 huge alternative/indie acts in South Africa. The places was PACKED. At least 300 people. I stumbled on the stage trying to set up, with other managers not giving a shit for me. The people streamed into the venue, and I still needed a sound check. Luckily I managed to set up with a hundreds of faces staring at my gear. I played a 25 minute set. I was nervous as shit, but I managed to rock a sick set. Apparently a guy in  a Mario shirt danced on the speakers and got escorted. The general response was positive, really positive. Got offered two more gigs because of it. A chick came to me and said I changed her life.

I guess I wish was less nervous so I could interact with the crowd better. I suck at crowd/performer relations.

My first chip gig was last Friday in Dundee with Edward Shallow and Comptroller. I had a great time! The music was well received and the turnout was pretty good (about 30-40 people over the night) considering chip isn't very big in Scotland. Edward Shallow done my visuals, I done his and Comptroller used his VBLANK. Someone actually came over and shook my hand midset after I'd finished playing one of my songs! Haha! That was a nice feeling.

We also met a chip enthusiast called Laurence, who just happened to be the nicest guy ever. He has a blog online and is a massive Random fan. We also met a Scottish nanoloop artist I hadn't noticed on the scene before called Bitface. Comptroller also took some videos of the show, so hopefully they will be online soon! All in all, it was a great night, and I've booked my next show already (29th January in Edinburgh with Enfant Bastard and Famikiller!).

Edit: Now with video footage!

i guess my first real chip gig was like the second pulsewave in NYC with nullsleep, OMAC (Peter Swimm of TCTD and Mark Denardo of graffiti monsters), Nullsleep, and Notendo on viisuals.  This was 2 player productions first chip show i think.  a friend of mine tipped them off and they showed up to get some footage for a documentary.

How did it go:  i remember Louie from grafitti mosters (they didnt exist yet) was dancing all fucking crazy so it must have been slightly cool.

What would i change:  I remember playing too long of a set (maybe 45min - an hour) - i was used to playing 3 hour gigs with my old band.  The transistions between songs took too long and i remember having an insane setup:  guitar, bass, keyboard, imac etc...  too much crap to bring and maintain on stage.  i used my cracked copy of ableton to play back my nanoloop tracks because i lost most of them.

I did learn about the prosound mod from Nullsleep's red gameboy color (this was back in the chain wallet days).  And i also met Peter Swimm, Mark Denardo, Asif Paul and Paul from 2PP, and Jeff Donaldson... so from that perspective the gig was a success even though there weren't that many ppl there.  But, at least i get to say that i played the second Pulsewave EVER.

Im impressed by how well planned /put together some artists first shows were, such as 8gb! When I lived in more of a rural area back in 2005, most of our first shows were in barns! tongue

It was a great line up (me, Bit Mummy, 8cylinder, Baron Knoxburry, and Yatagarasu), however, it was just a shitty day weather-wise (Pittsburgh is mother nature's period), so the turnout wasn't so good. At the end of the night, I lost $50 paying the other guys.

My first gig was in a basement with some local bands. I was pretty drunk (what a surprise). It went alright. All I remember is peeing all over a toilet seat, running back downstairs and hitting some buttons on my midi pad controller. People were dancing. I was screaming about something. There was a stuffed racoon in the corner. I miss that summer.
