I don't think so.

I like ant1 and ZanZan's musics, because I listen and remember what it was like when I recorded myself making music for its own sake, didn't have to show anybody, and it didn't matter if there were site hits, downloads, sales, audience...

Not everyone can or should push boundaries, but not everyone can or should sell to the masses. Thinking there isn't a place for one or the other goes against Lazerbeat's last bullet point- (not) bickering about what (chip)music is.

Isn't that pretty close to what Russellian said, though? Just live and let live?

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get across. It's not worth it to try and force everyone to progress toward whatever someone wants to define chipmusic as. It's better to let it evolve on it's own (not to be confused with leaving it entirely alone, as you need some active, boundary-pushing artists in order for a given art form to evolve and flourish).

Okay, I understand. The confrontational tone of things made me feel a need to push a little.

By the way, to whom it concerns, when I feel frustrated because nothing seems to be happening or when I think somebody is getting undue attention and I want an excuse to ignore it, I make a point to do something creative to make myself feel better, even if it's simple or I don't like or keep the results. Sorry if I've mentioned that here already.

Good motivational talk from Zan! As long as it doesn't get all McLarenoid which I guess it would if it was done well. The crisis is everywhere!

i think trap music is a good warning against people with no creativity and no vision becoming antigenre avantgardists

(edit: and also malcolm mclaren)

(edit: zanzan maybe you could just revive vargid police . no one will associate vargid police with famicompo)

I agree with zanzan, airy fairy vgm (!) and trying to copy the sound of 90s keygens for the nostalgic selfmastrubation kicks of it is really pointless if it is not just a way to learn how to compose and produce music -and still! maybe you should keep said songs to yourself before complaining about quality of audience...

chipmusic as it stands is as big of an incestual, solipsist, automated backpatting machine as it can possibly be without coverage and it is your complacent idiot fault.

Oh how I miss the 90s demoscene where you were allowed to say that something sucked without being labeled an asshole.

I couldn't agree more with zanzan.

It's absurd the self centered, cannibalistic and circle-jerking "scene" we have now.

To explain that, i use the example of a certain release that EVERYBODY praised, but is just a damn dubstep track (which is pretty boring for my standards) and all I cared was the clever usage of the chip, which wasn't that innovative if it's layered on mastering. Wasn't that perfect, some stuff wasn't even great, was just awkward to see the circlejerking around. Circlejerk, i like that word.

Anyway, we don't need to be "punk", we just need to get off the forums and fuck all this shit, do shit and stuff... And I read people saying what Im saying at least since I jumped the bandwagon of chipmusic. I'm doing my part, I'm doing the kind of sound I want, I play a few gigs, and whatever.

And chunter said something really relevant, if you are discontent, then do something positive out of it. It works.

tldr: i dunno wat im writing

yes, people have really misunderstood the fundamental basics of a subculture. the forums shouldn't be used for back tapping and circle-jerking  peoples releases. Forums should ONLY be used for drama and juicy gossip. chipscene, plz.
