I don't think there's any musical genre I am inherently biased against, but I'm a sucker for folk, sloppy indie rock, and IDM or whatever the kids are calling it these days.

but taking songs away isnt likely to increase the value for money ever

Value for money is a poor metric in these matters - by this logic, why not release any old thing that comes into your head? Why not make all your songs 10 minutes longer than they need to be? An artist who edits their own work ruthlessly may not produce a lot of material, but maybe the material is deeper and more enriching.

Not to say there's anything wrong with being prolific and releasing a lot of stuff, but there's inevitably something lost there. We all have limited time and ability, and there's a lot to be said (though it doesn't get said often these days) for using what you've been given to make something as good as possible rather than making as much of it as possible.

Looks good, though the meat puns are a bit much.

I figure since I've got an NES flash cart now, I might as well check out what's going on in the ole homebrew scene. Are there any homebrew games for the NES that you'd recommend? The only one I've played is Alter Ego, which is a pretty good puzzle platformer.

Tell me about the SNES/NES/64 games, please!

I also have this model of 12-string guitar. It's a very pretty guitar that sounds good and plays well. Also probably the most affordable 12-string out there that wasn't made in a sweatshop someplace.

Oh man, this is awesome. Silicon is best texture. heart

My main tools are Famitracker, Skale Tracker, and a version of Cool Edit Pro from 2000 or so. Recently I've been using Neil Baldwin's CajoNES and I love it. I've got LSDJ but am still struggling with its interface.

Awesome! Glad it arrived alright. (To be clear, the bonus floppy disk was only sent with the first three orders, because I was quite delayed in sending them out - just so no one who orders in the future is disappointed.)

So I guess we'll be talking about an artist's "cartography" from now on? I'm not complaining.

Advent Songs 4 & 5 are here. I fell off the horse a little but hope to catch up at some point.

I'd like one. I'd pay more than $40. I don't think anyone would fail to understand if your handmade mixer couldn't beat the price of something that's made in a factory in China somewhere.

Ah, really sorry I spaced this. I missed the whole "there's a deadline" bit.

Thanks, guys! Here's song #2; it's a rather different version of a couple of songs from last year's Twelve Nights album: https://soundcloud.com/hlemke/regressio … parts-i-ii

And song #3: https://soundcloud.com/hlemke/the-landing

Hi. I'm doing a musical Advent calendar this year. Much of it will probably be hastily written/recorded folk songs, but some chiptune stuff is more than likely to appear as well; it's a long month.

Song #1 is a piece of pure Mountain Goats homage called "Summoning Ritual": https://soundcloud.com/hlemke/summoning-ritual
Song #2 is a different version of a pair of songs from last year's Twelve Nights album, also seasonally appropriate listening: https://soundcloud.com/hlemke/regressio … parts-i-ii
Song #3 is more of a "broken family" song than a "holiday" song, but the lines sure are blurry: https://soundcloud.com/hlemke/the-landing

a happy Advent to all.
