So I will make this a quick question for a few reasons. First, I am on 8% battery. Second, I am still so new to chiptunes that I am afraid of asking such a silly question, but I never dealt with this before.

I am quickly buying a cartridge so I can finally start programming my music, and when I came across this EMS64usb cart (because of the price) I noticed that not a lot of people enjoy it because of it only able to have 'one save'. What is 'one save'? What is 'one save' in terms of LSDJ? Does this mean I can only save one song?

I do normally follow Panda Chan's second and third methods along with Xylo's progression. This is something I do when I have an idea but no staff sheets to write it on.

I write out a series of numbers; -1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,-7,1(-8),2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16
Three octaves, just to play around with a melody and if it fluctuates to a higher tone or lower.
Each number is the note of whatever key you are in (number one would be your tonic, two would be supertonic, three is mediant, ect)
You have to start on one or five (reason for this is because no matter what key you're in, the tonic is your major and dominate is your minor)
Doubling notes is hard to explain, but should be kept to root,third,fifth,(and sixth or seventh for a fuller or jazz swing).
Listing a line of numbers now becomes your sheet music, that can be played in any key. 
If anyone makes sense of what I just typed, try this out. I can throw an example but I'm getting ready for work at the moment.

I downloaded the Mac OSX version of the software through the website and moved the file from the folder to my /user/local/lib, but I am lost from there. When I select the program, there is no window opening and then the icon on my dock appears and disappears quickly. Anything I am doing wrong?

I'm sorry that I can't jump on the Caves fandom, but I really like Track 2. Great melody, and industrial feel while still have a verse/chorus/verse structure. I saw your comment on my post too! Happy to see another in the Detroit area! Great EP, put together very well!

I had to have a few of my friends listen to this. We are all musicians within the Michigan area that do things here and there for anyone from Punk bands to Community Theaters, all learned the basic music theory jumbo and what-not. It was hard to understand this song, but when I figured it out I showed them. Great work man! You followed basic structure very well, even though it may seem to you that you were all over the place. Sometimes our most harsh critics are ourselves. We didn't pirate the song or anything, but we listed the different verses you had, all had a good structure on there own, and were arranged together well. The only thing that confused us was somewhere around the 3:40-4:04 mark. When it first is played, it does slightly jump the rails but then when everything else is accompanied the song is brought back the original. 4:25 is another really weird point. Don't get me wrong or anything, it is all correct in the realm of music theory, just is off-setting until you hear what comes after it. Even after that, when it hits it's reprise the song reaches a perfect ending.

But again, all-in-all, this is a very well done song and I enjoyed listening to it.

I'm most likely not going back to the trouble of writing my fifty pages of notes again and relearning the program. I loved it, don't get me wrong because it was fun at the time, but unfortunately I can not pull myself to do it. Music is my real passion, and I'll leave everything to the songs when it comes to telling the story. I thought if I do this chiptunes thing, and actually make a CD (and I am saying it like this because I am still new and I don't know how well or how long it will take me to learn the tools), I'll have a little booklet that describes the scene that the song represents with some 8-bit or 16-bit sprites and background. Cool idea I thought. I haven't gotten the programs yet; I am in the process of still re-writing my music to a single or dual melody.

I go through this stuff monthly, so I'll just give you some things that have happened to me in the past and I hope they help you out as well.

Not everything negative is good, but in order to have some sort of motivation some kind of event has to impact your life. Back a few years ago while I was in high school my first girlfriend broke up with me. I did some self searching and realized that I could have been a better boyfriend (less selfish and stuff like that) but after I went on this self discovery I found that she also was cheating on me. Some weeks later, I had an assignment to write a short story for my Creative Writing class. The 3-5 pages turned out to be 13 pages long about that journey I took and how even though it was for the best would never change the past. Teacher loved it so much, she sent it in to get published. (Just typing this small paragraph here made me want to pull out the original copy and go through it again).

This may not be parental approved, but; I love H P Lovecraft. His macabre take on occult esoteric magic of summon gods from an other plane of existence inspired me to do more writing. However, I needed some help. The few small stories I have done were actually just in one sitting, listening to ambient music with no lyrics and have a few glasses of wine. My words, coherent. Writing, legible. But the more I drank, the more my mind twisted the reality of fiction I wrote and it became a different story altogether.

Just recently, and what had brought me to chiptunes, I became sad that there were no more games that grabbed my attention like the classic Final Fantasy (FF VI to be exact). So I began to write, and when I wrote something down, something else came to mind. This kept happening so quickly that I bullet pointed events so I can move from page to page. When I put all of this on RPGMaker, the harddrive crashed and I gave up trying to be creative. A friend showed me chiptunes, and I slowly got back into music. But it wasn't until I stepped out side from watching the Final Fantasy Concert when I realized that I wanted to pull what ever music I had and turn it into 8 or 16 bit.

Now this might be silly or some kind of placebo effect; Exercise. I don't know why, but I run for 30 min to an hour every morning and afterwards I feel so much better about everything. Whenever I eat salads and apples or oranges instead of cookies, I tend to stay more on track with what I am doing. I stopped buy fast food and cooking at home with actual ingredients, and I sleep more sound and wake up more relaxed. Might not work for everyone, and it may be a placebo effect, but the running and changing my food is keeping me remembering all the anime that was on Netflix.

Well everyone, I would like to thank you for all of the responses and the helpful advice; both here and through messages. I think I have a handle on what I need to do next:
I will use my CGB for now and was advised to purchase a Drag and Derp cartridge for LSDJ. This should hold my interests with the program, and from what I was told, last longer then normal because of no battery. (honestly didn't know there were batteries in cartridges).
Also downloading Deflemask right now to see if it would be easier to play with while I'm waiting for everything else.
I will not mod my clear purple gameboy, but since my teal one is already ripped apart, I'll try and do something with it /shrug
I will be re-transcribing my music, and now I can not wait to hear how it would sound through a gaming system!

Also, I do hope to make it to the show on Friday.

hey, i have a tattoo of a dmg, but still prefer the sound from a gba sp for most of my stuff... and im not alone, low-gain usually used sp's same with bubblyfish.. plus for those using lsdj, the extra processor power is very useful.. ive written a few tracks in lsdj that cause the dmg to become unresponsive

I guess that should be something else to consider, processor power. Is there a huge difference in what can be done between a original game boy and a game boy advance? Do the songs play smoother or is the interface easier to use? And since lsdj using the sound from the system, are there more available on the advance handhelds?

Again, sorry for all the questions. Just want to making sure I am doing this right.

i also totally agree with this statement... mods are not necessary by any means, especially if you take a little time learning the in and outs of audacity and/or your daw of choice... noise reduction done properly in software is way better than what just recording with a prosund modded game boy can do... hell, even with prosound modded game boys, i still run 1-2 passes of noise reduction on any game boy recordings

I wish I was told this before the possible board damage sad If Audacity and Garage Band can handle noise, then I guess everything would work out; with the exception of me still needing a flash cart and lsdj. Backlight would be awesome though, but I do have a friend that had a Game Boy Light, maybe I could take it. I'm guessing the difference between that and the game boy color is nothing much.
