as i have got older, i have noticed more and more how ready people are these days to slate a project, its very easy to pick holes in other people's work especially with the internet opening ideas up to the whole world.

but i don't see many people actually starting new things, in fact i think there are less people starting new projects because they are afraid of what people will say. I don't bother to make my projects public anymore because of how people react, especially people who couldn't even begin to understand how it all works.

with china undercutting labor costs, people assume that labor is free, they calculate the cost of parts it takes to make something and disregard the R and D costs, and assembly costs, and the intellectual value of the original idea. That kind of thinking leads to companies producing quantity not quality. everywhere you look there is cheap crap for sale, and as soon as something well built comes along people complain about its price.

I totally agree with this. This business model is not only unsustainable; but it's Western elitist and is ruining lives. I actually get annoyed whenever I see things on ridiculous sales now; when I see a piece of clothing selling for $5 or less at Wal-mart all that means to me is that somehow they're managing to get labour cheap enough that even with costs of materials AND shipping they're STILL making a profit on it. It's the fair-trade coffee thing all over again. I've started trying to buy locally as much as I can; even though it's more expensive at least I know where it's coming from.

TL;DR: Expecting stuff to be really cheap is causing sweat-shop labour.

Yeah, all of this is kind of "if we all had money to spare" haha. I need a mixer first, then another DMG... THEN maybe a Kaoss Pad. It's all pretty far down the line.

I think I'm holding out for its big brother, the Kaoss Pad Quad, you can do a heck of a lot more; and you can basically play that thing like an instrument. 4 effects at a time, and you can freeze them in different spots and just generally mess around; looks like a ton of fun. With the miniKP I think I'd just get frustrating changing back and forth so much.

There needs to be a program where you can pick a volume level and just scale everything back/up to that level; yes I know I just described a compressor, but it'd be cool to have a wave editor with a visual interface that just has handles on the volume and on transients and lets you drag them around. Maybe I'll invent that at become a billionaire.

My eyes hurt.

Lately I've been trying to mix everything lower, but volume levels creep up over time. Usually I'll write a song that ends up around the A level, but I like to drop my entire Wave channel down to Volume 2 so that the kicks stand out a lot (at 3); this means I basically go through the entire song again after I've written it and bring all the volume levels down as much as I can. I wrestle back and forth with it a lot.

Also, when you're making your Wave instruments try changing the volume in the synth screen to 80, it boosts the whole thing up.

There will be a Nugget related prize going to the winner. It's not a photo, but that was actually a really close guess.

Wow, now I'm going to try really hard at being more popular before the next vote; I could really use a new dog!

Yeah; chipscene is pretty small overall; and any gigs there are don't really pay. Whatever the money is, it's pretty much not enough to be relevant for anything. If you can keep up with the music equipment you're buying then I'd say you're doing well.

I kinda love that this is basically a Popularity *Tournament*. I hope this stays super light-hearted, it doesn't matter at all.

I'm interested in add a lsdj song
importer to DefleMask. I should reverse engineer the lsdsng format or there is a spec out there?.

Nitro2k01 is probably one of the best people to talk to about this, not sure if he'll know how, but he'll know the best place to start.

DO WANT.

Unfortunately I can't justify buying it right now.

I likely will be buying a new one in the next few months and I'm planning to come to you for it, it looks like you do very nice work!

To be honest, I'm really not impressed. The video is very vague on what it actually does; and it seems like they're trying to market this to the general public; which I don't really think will work. They also don't really make a big deal out of the fact that you need a modded gameboy to use it, which is kind of important. I understand the price point considering the work they're putting in, but for the same price I can get a KP3 which will be better built and can do even more FX on the sound AND I don't need to leave the Gameboy just sitting on the table. Perhaps the $365 version would be worth it, because you essentially get a backlit modded midiboy; but you still need the base station all the time.

As for the Rackmounted  multi-console they're trying to do next, I find that it kind of defeats the purpose; people love seeing the gimmick of having old consoles on stage; if you only wanted the sound and not the gimmick then go get plogue chipsounds for a fraction of the cost. I imagine it would be very difficult to use the rack-mount version too.

Tl;DR: Nice try, no thanks.
Sorry Kitsch, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Nice! This is totally usable now. I like it a lot actually. Next is the ability to post replies directly from cmhb, I figure that should keep you busy for the next couple months haha.
BTW the page is titled Chip music hear bits in my browser.

Whoah, what are you guys doing here? I'm still hanging out in Usenet.
