It's got a retro feel because the blips and bloops bring people back to the NES and GB days; but when used as a medium instead of a genre then you have to re-evaluate. Chipstep and modern fusions aren't retro because those are new genres. I'd argue that there is a genre of "chiptune" though; for instance I would say that Virt's style of composition is uniquely "chiptune" as far as genre goes.

If anyone asks though; chipmusic is a medium, method, and instrument rather than a genre.

So wait; what is this exactly; a contest between multiple formats? Can we enter anything from those formats?

Definitely checking this out.

Classically trained in Piano for like 12 years; but I've taught myself a ton since I stopped taking lessons.

Yeah; for quality reasons I'd recommend a direct recording; then you can use DSP effects if you want in post production.

Class action lawsuit? They've swiped all of my stuff too; this isn't right. What's the appropriate stance to take here?

Hey there! I always love a bit of radio-play! I'm a gameboy LSDJ Purist. Check me out: http://zef-music.bandcamp.com/
Conduit and Gambit are some of my favourites.

Cool Analog; just let me know if you need any source files.

Nice! I think we need more mixtapes these days; it's a lost art. Bandcamp is great for this too because you can just hit play and it goes straight through. I'm curious, did you convert the mp3's to waves in order to upload them? lol tongue

Also, you have my permission and encouragement to use my tracks on any (and all) following mixtapes. Though for future reference it is nice to hear about it ahead of time (I know it can be pretty tough to track down contact information sometimes though; it's cool for us even to just see where our stuff is showing up.)
Peace out!

Oh, also welcome to the forum!

This is pretty sweet, nice choice of songs; the variety is really good too. You should put up a tracklist with the timecode for each song.

I'll be putting out a newer and bigger release sometime this spring, stay tuned!

Let me know when you get more of those DMG to PS2 keyboard adaptors.

Try "sounds" instead of "songs" there mate, it'll help you in your search. Check out http://brkbrkbrk.com/patch/ it's got a few good sounds for you to try out. There used to be bigger patchbooks, but unfortunately they all seem cursed to destruction.

You've made your point quite clearly, and so we've made ours. The answer is no, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Cut your losses and buy something, this topic is going nowhere fast.

Agreed, just buy something and get started, we know what we're talking about and we're telling you it makes little difference. Grab an EMS cart and get started on a DMG or a color. Don't even think about the processing speed limits of the DMG, the only time I ran into those was when I was half-clocked running double-time at 255 bpm; I don't know if you understand that, but it basically means it's not an issue. Don't even worry about pro-sound mods yet; the difference is negligible for a beginner.

The EMS 64MB is one of the better options out there currently yeah; it has support for multiple ROMs, but unfortunately only has support for 1 save file. Out of the current carts out there you won't really find any with multiple save support; but the coming Drag'n'Derp cart might be able to fill that niche. I wouldn't sit around waiting for it though; no-one knows when it'll actually make it into production.
