I can't test right now, but have you extracted the LHAs on the Amiga?
Alternatively, download from here:

That's strange.
Well, You WILL hear some strange noises while You press "MONITOR" before recording (to set a proper volume level)

on the right hand side, middle.
But when You press RECORD then, it should sound clear.
Supposedly Your samples is broken.

YECH, Octamed! xD
What I hear is line-level noise. Isn't that kinda normal? Every line input has some noise.
Then again I wouldn't discard the possibility of the sampler being broken.

Well, I ask this because I got two samplers myself now, and I am finding it hard to capture noiseless signals. I usually have to crank up the gain a damn lot and this makes things go bad.

I don't have a DSS (damn, hat was my first tracker! DSS Sound Studio!) though, I have a generic black box sampler and an AMAS2. I think the problem with the AMAS2 is that it also has a MIC input so teh preamps are kinda shitty.

You can't use anything extra on the C128 (only extras are memory and a new VIC and the VDC for 80 column display, oh and a lame 2Mhz mode) for music making, and not in C64 mode. So it doesn't make much of a difference. It has some compatibility problems, just very few. And it's far bigger.

Some of them have an 8580 though, but most have a 6581.

I'd get a C64 unless it's an 8580 C128.

I don't really use floppies anymore so I don't have any use for this device in my Amiga, the Spectrum might like it. Then again, I can also try to get a divIDE for it.
Oh, but my MSX might happily enjoy this. hmm....... this or that sunwhatever cart... hmmmm

TOO MUCH GEAR TO BUY FOR OLD COMPUTER SHIT

Tips from the masters. Yay!
However, I will be a nitpicker: what did you do, cTrix, when you didn't have any of these wondrous tools you have nowadays?

Amigakit? Bah, man, armed robbery.
As I said, ANY electronic technician CAN do this. You just have to tell him exactly what to do (change the caps). Also, as I said, it is recommended that ALL capacitors on the mothrboard are changed, since they are a source of problems, so you can just take it to this technician and ask him to replace for equivalent, NON SMT components, paying attention to make double-sure the ratings are the same.

I will, again, strongly recommend AGAINST doing this on your own, but it's your Amiga after all. Just think you might pass from having a defective computer to having a very expensive and funky looking doorstep.

You tried many other softwares with audio? Did they have audio? If no, the caps are probably the problem. Now, if you have other problems too (serial I/O, floppy access, mouse) then Paula might be defective. But this is a VERY unlikely scenario.

This link might help:
http://joj.home.texas.net/amigacap.html

Here they describe the prob on an A4000, which is almost the same (A600s, A1200s and A4000s suffer the same problem with defective surface mount caps):

If it was, it was included by the user who made the disk image. CrossDOS, for licensing issues, was NOT included in KS3.1 . Only 3.0 and 2.1 have it.
