akira: yet MidiNES actually you can send actual PCM data using cc numbers... SOMEHOW

You can probably send all the data you want to the Genesis, but it will choke on data/lose data/etc.
Specially when dealing with USB interfaces this gets worse.

MIDI doesn't work well at that level, Delek, not only on this interface.
Imagine if you are doing that with not one but 3 or 6 voices or more... it's just not gonna happen.

Still, should be merged, not in past events. It's confusing indeed!
Also, Olio is the promoter, her thread should be the one to be kept.

Anybody in South London planinng to go to this?

I mean mass transit. As in commuter transport. With "long distance trains" I meant really long distance, 1+ hour, european style trains (you ain't got that in the amerrikuz on 1 hour trips ;P).
If you can use it awesome for you. For me, neither the ambient nor the available tools in such situation would inspire me to do anything worth my time.

However, I made I think all or most of Red October while jumping cities on Swiss and Dutch trains.

can't use an mpc on public transit

That isn't strictly true. For modes of transport without power sockets, you could use an MPC500 and those with power sockets (like some trains here in the UK, at least) you could use any MPC. Size and weight are a different issue, though.

That and, also, making music in public transport is greatly overrated. I can't think of a more inadequate place for inspiration/concentration/creativity.
Long distance trains are probably the only mobile medium where it's cool to make music.

Tell me more about your Akai XR20. Looks interesting. Can it sequence external MIDI devices?

Bypassing the amps might remove some of the early motherboard features, like bass response. i'd test it before making it permanent.
The output as it is on my VA3, straight from the headphones plug, is not noisy/.

No you hook up an RCA or whatever from the existing video/audio output, which is line level.

That works only for mono, you have to get stereo from somewhere else.

give it a shot, if youve got an mpc, you're already used to working with samples, right?

Actually, if you've got an MPC, you need nothing else in this planet.
