True. Of course, making the plastic go blooey also messes up the inside a bit, and might alter the way the case fits. That's not cool.

Well, it's a very good thing I got an extra case from Kitsch so I could figure out how this particular batch of plastic responds to the laser. It's apparently quite susceptible to blow-out. So I will be either modifying my designs or changing the engraving parameters for the next one. Overall though, it looks quite promising.

The front turned out amazing. Not exactly sure why this didn't blow-out like the backside, but it seems to be great.

Now, on the backside, things were not so good. This blemish is something called a blow-out, and indicates I have the beam set too hot. The top surface of the plastic is becoming too soft and liquid, and is being blown to the side by the air coming off the cut head. This is bad. Fortunately I asked Kitsch for an extra case, in case this happened. The next one will be adjusted properly and won't have this problem.

Overall though, I think it came out looking pretty good on the front, and it confirms my feelings about the engraving design itself.

I'll let you know. I'm going to do a few for Kitsch first, but after that I'm certainly open to doing plenty of custom work.

These patterns are kinda addicting to make. That's all for tonight, I'll try something more different tomorrow.

Last time around, people said they'd like something more geometric. As a first concept, I thought, what happens when I cover the whole thing? Keep in mind, this is a concept. Working on a few others, this one just happened to hold my attention longest.

Of what?  If you're actually interested in making a purchase, I'll get some pics, but it's a pain in the ass to do.  I'm not going to take time out of my day to get pictures simply because some guy wants to oogle my stuff.

Having sold plenty of things online I feel I can speak from experience. You're only going to sound super sketchy by not taking pics in the first place and being upset when someone asks for pics without holding their wallet out first.

FYI, here are high resolution scans of the kitsch boy cases, suitable for using as design templates. Yes, those are legos. They happen to be very dimensionally consistent (for measuring the scale) and also happen to be handy for building a wall on top of the scanner which can be used to properly align things with rounded corners, like gameboy cases.

I think I prefer to have my artist's mark inside the battery cover. That seems like a nice place.

I'm going to try some more engraving, this time on some of Kitsch's very lovely replacement DMG cases. Will keep you posted as I go along. Here are the victims:

I'm undecided on which to try first, and am happy to take suggestions for which color to pick first. I have some ideas in mind for engravings, but with 6 cases to make, I'm certainly open to suggestions.

You can use a UV lamp, but be aware that you need to WATCH the thing, come back every hour, because over exposure will mess your plastics up bad! I live in MN, and it's overcast and basically horrible for more than half the year, and I've done this on a winter's day when we don't get too much UV, and it's worked OK. You don't need bright overhead sun, just as long as it's not dark as the side of Mount Doom...

Is there a way to change the email address associated with my CM.O username?

Many thanks to Kitsch for providing the dead DMG. Work now begins...

No more ancient, obsolete, unavailable eeproms.

I am currently reading through the datasheet of this:
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Spa … H3SLV1U%3d

16MBytes, 8-bit selectable. However, it runs on 2.7-3.6v. Easily achievable and still under value of the current 29f032 variants.

Options are limited when you consider how the GB expects to be able to address the chip though.

Not gonna lie, I basically just listen to chiptune the same way I always have: with headphones. I have gone to a few shows in MN here (Low-Gain, Unicorn Dream Attack, and L-Tron, you guys rock, that was a fun few months) but frankly, I don't much care for 'em. I like recordings.

Someone has offered me something rather tempting... let's see how it goes.
