Hi Folks,

Been having fun & learning Adlib2 & Impulse Tracker on a Libretto 100CT running Windows 98SE.
I was wondering if selecting Windows Sound System as the driver for Impulse Tracker might improve the playback quality a touch?
At the moment both programs auto detect Sound Blaster Pro - which sounds great for Adlib2 but a little rough when using IT.

After reading the IT documentation I have gotten as far as selecting the WSS driver “ITWSS.DRV” via the command line after launching Impulse ie:  C:\TRACKERS\IMPULSE\IT.EXE /sITWSS.DRV but it then launches Impulse Tracker without detecting any sound card at all.

Any thoughts on if selecting WSS as a driver is possible & if there is anything to be gained in terms of quality (16 Bit as opposed to SB's 8 bit?) & secondly if I missing something in terms of selecting the driver via the command line?

Cheers!

Hi Folks, wondering if anyone has managed to successfully downgrade their 2.x carts to 2.2 via nlMidi?

I followed the instructions & managed to succesfully transfer the updater.gba helper ROM to the GBA resulting in a black bar and then the "0000 0000" screen appearing on the GBA as described but when I finally try to transfer the nanoloop22.gba ROM to the GBA although the buffer content begins counting up on the MAC the GBA screen does not count in sync and remains permanently at "0000 0000".

I had thought it was possible to downgrade an NL2.7 cart running 2.8.2 but I could be wrong!

I tried various cables and the inital helper updater updater.gba ROM always seems to transfer fine.
I did notice that the nanoloop22.gba file when loaded in the buffer is 7680k rather than the 8192 k that is quoted in the instructions though, not sure if that has any bearing.

Cheers!

Hiya Folks.
I have a Toshiba Libretto 100CT that I picked up to run Adlib2.

It was working fine and I was taking my first faltering steps with the program when, in a moment of utter madness, I installed Windows 98 SE from a setup file on the machine and since then I can't seem to get any sound out of Adlib2.
It also seemed to make the volume control vanish from the toolbar.
Managed to find a replacement SNDVOL32.exe file and the volume control is back but no luck with Adlib2.
All other sound playback fine and Impulse Tracker recognises "Sound Blaster Pro".

Driver seems to be Yamaha OPL3-SAx WDM. There was defintelly a cheery OPL icon somewhere in the Control Panel which has vanished also. I can't be sure but it may have been Windows 98 installed on it and not SE, like an idiot I never checked.

UPDATE:

The lovely folks at the Adlib FB page pointed me in the direction of an updated OPL Driver.
The Libretto is now working like a charm!

Thanks everyone! This ended up being even better than I expected. I'll put the word out for a new comp early next year; I'm thinking hybrid (ie. nanoloop + other devices). I also had an idea for something more along the lines of minimalist composition / "nanoloop ensemble" though so maybe we can give that a go big_smile

Ah! Great to read. I had wondered if there might be info on versions of NL folk had used for individual tracks.

Yeah, a few people included text files detailing the version of nanoloop used, but I decided against including it with the release because most of the submissions didn't include this information (my fault; I should have asked for this in the submission form).

It's probs a good thing, great to know what can be achieved but I guess it's nice to preserve the mystery!
Insomnia has its advantages - been re-listening over the last few nights, great compilation, great work all round.

Just realised there are references to versions used in earlier posts.

Man, this album is dope.

Been gradually feeling my way around Nanoloop Mono over the last couple of weeks, trying to coax out odd sounds.
I was wondering if folks were using NL to make experimental work and then (as if by magic) a whole album is delivered.
I see it's been brewing for a while, looks like I picked the perfect time to check in.

Super inspiring.
