What kind of gear you have used/owned?

(i might be forgetting a few...)

Skin flute player too I am guessing? Since you seem to have used everything... I mean... it makes sense.

I think that Roland Aira series misses a lot of things that are successful about the most recent korg products. They all seem like they are trying to capture the feel of the kaossilator, kaosspad, and micro korg rather then the current line of montrons, volcas, and mini ms-20. I think it wasn’t what people had hoped for and were mislead into believing via their campaigns. The price is really high compared to the korg versions of the Aira series and several years late. The only product I can give them credit for would be the tr-8 and that is just on the fact that it’s a decent sounding hardware emulation of impossibly expensive gear for cheaper (i think the ACB technology sounds pretty good).

Rather then focus on quality, the gear that they made seems to be all about the gimmicks that other companies have already done. The VT-1 wasn’t even a particularly useful/sought after roland product but they brought it back in the VT-3 for some reason. The VT-3 has a lot of modes but serves none of them well seemingly. A simple addition of midi in to control pitch and you would a decent vocoder but they seem to have omitted that. The biggest issue is that Aira never fully commit on what their products are supposed to be. Are they a new line of affordable digital beat making equipment or are they an update to roland’s old gems? In both cases they don’t seem to really get the point across.

Aira wants to ride the reputation of past roland products without delivering on the quality that they provided and tries to pass off gimmicks and stolen ideas (touchpads, shuffle AKA beat repeats/roll/fills, bright color LEDs, etc.) as innovation. The design looks even feel late as the color scheme looks like some toys i had from the 90’s. It all comes off to me as though Roland just doesn’t know what they are doing and are either playing catchup or trying to cash in on the success of things they don’t fully understand.

nifty. gonna dl it right now!

On a side note. This is a nice little walk through of the tandy 1000 but my fave reviewer to date.

Ableton doesnt really clock great as a midi slave , in my opinion.

Nah i would say that as a fact. Ableton works best as master for sure. I found that out while doing some recordings with my drum machines.

Me gusta. I was considering doing something similar. I dont like having my genmdm naked.

I am thinking of getting my model 2 modified with the ccam and then internally installing the midi bit and possibly the cart.

Yep, After I will complete my last scheduled project (Linn Lm-1 Drum Machine VST with direct EPROM binary loading features...) I will start to familiarize with OSX and try to port these (I never had a mac since ^-^) so it should be around summer 2014.

YAYAYAYYAYAYAAYYY!!!! cant wait!!

Thanx sooo much guys!!
I did actually try that her_prof. Thats how i ended up where i am at.
I checked my setup and can get midi sent via ableton easily to mssiah. when just using live view and drawing envelopes in clips. Will try making change objects. gonna have to do some reading about it.
I havent tried midi monitor to check my shizz. Will give this all a try!!

If you guys haven’t heard Crashfaster’s epic studio release Further then you really should check it out. It takes chipmusic bands to the next level. Dark, heavy, and intelligent the album really is one you can listen to all the way through. It is an experience that throws you into another world. You all really should give it a listen and consider adding it to your collection. I highly recommend it.

maybe a little drop the volume of the pulse channel a bit so we can hear the drums a bit better but good.

Just some thoughts:

Those hats really just end up sitting in the background and end up not being interesting. half time them maybe and play with some variation. you should try dropping drums in and out to emphasize part changes and add drama to the track more. FILLS PLEAZEEE. volume mix could use some work. maybe add some other sound effects to let you know when different parts are ending and beginning.

Main criticism: there isn't a lot of tension being built from section to section but if you try some of those ideas i think it might help.

Sounds very trancey and happy hardcorey tho so i think you are on the right track. hope that helps smile

First song: arpeggios sound compositionally random to me. repetitive at parts that need variation. energy wise it could use some break up too as it is pretty straight all the way. Sounds need more diversity patch wise.

Second song: much better tho i think your bass needs work on variation. repetitive. your noise channel drums are boring sound wise. kick needs to be bigger.

In general:
Your sounds could use some creativity. You might benefit from looking at how to create emulations of echo effects and playing with commands to add articulation to your compositions. The wave channel is really powerful too so don't be afraid to dive in deep and learn a bit of its synthesis.
Composition wise you might want to consider different ways to make it feel more cohesive and deliberate as possible as i noticed a lot of recycled looping.

It's a good beginning to lsdj. keep it up and keep experimenting. cheers.

nice. would say that your "guitar" sounds could be maybe a little dirtier. more variation with the drum sounds would be nice with some more HH stuff going. Hard tell tho cuz the cymbals are hard to tell apart. maybe crash to emphasize certain parts. bass sound could be articulated. great composition tho and the fills are solid. maybe work on the  volume mix a little more.

good work tho.

radness. sounds cool.

you guys got nothing for me?!?!?!? sad
