I think it's a great concept, but I also think that you're missing the point a bit by putting out a limited number of copies of any one release. I read that you've limited your own album release to 10 copies, but why? Surely what you're doing is creating a way to avoid paying for expensive high-number print runs and pass on those savings to your customers, in order to get the word out about the artists in your collective in an interesting and equally cost-efficient manner. Limiting your print runs, which are designed to be produced easily at home, seems non-sensical.

I have no affiliation with White Sleeve Collective, but I belong to a similar collective where we do really small print runs of our music (10-30 copies on average) because, honestly, it's a pain in the ass to insure quality and consistency in numbers larger than that.  Especially when it's a hobby project like a collective and not a business.  Things like printing inserts, ordering paper for inserts, mixing inks and matching colors for silkscreening/letterpressing, and overall material costs are much more manageable when you only need to make twenty copies. A lot of these things can be done in batches as needed if you're not specifying an edition number for the release, but it's tough to make sure the finished product is consistent in quality compared to earlier batches when you're doing a DIY setup.

Not to mention the overall drive to just make a physical release and have it done, then move on to making something else.

Also going to try to do the open mic.  If I don't get swallowed by the marsh wilderness that is the Baltimore Megabus dropoff point.

any chance of a third band being added?

I'm not really sure...  all the booking and promotion is being done by the Super Art Fight team. I do know that there's only been two bands for all the past shows, just because the night is pretty packed with the art events between bands playing.

SUPER ART FIGHT XI
Saturday, August 20th, 2011 – 8pm Doors, 9pm Show

The Ottobar
2549 North Howard Street
Baltimore, Maryland 21218

Admission: $15 (All Ages Show) – Tickets On Sale Now

If you're not familiar with Super Art Fight, imagine a combination of Pictionary and Pro Wrestling. Artists go head to head on giant canvases, drawing whatever subject matter the ominously named “Wheel of Death” chooses for them. Defacing an opponent's artwork is strongly encouraged.  It's weird and wonderful. On top of all that, hefty sets by two of your favorite chip rock bands.

Tickets are already over halfway sold out... so if you're going to go, buy them now!

Oberlin has an amazing conservatory filled with very talented people.  Most of the musicians I play with right now went to Oberlin and they all speak very highly of it.  The best part is that you can go for a legit degree in something useful (i.e., not music) but be able to play with the people studying at the conservatory.

But Oberlin is super expensive.  You'll be happier in the long run if you don't go (unless you have rich parents who are going to pay your way).  Just move to a college town and start hanging out at parties and networking... you'll get all the benefits of college without the debt.

given that g+ doesnt have any networking features as of yet, the "chiptune circle" is simply an ad hoc account that exists solely to list the people that it follows. the idea is this:

1) chip people follow "chiptune circle"
2) "chiptune circle" follows back
3) chip people look at the "chiptune circle" follow list to find other chip people / add entire "chiptune circle" follow list

and then

4) google actually adds legit social networking functions ('Sparks?' wtf); "chiptune circle" becomes immediately irrelevant

Hopefully this method of networking will give rise to images like this all over the web:

The problem I've been having with G+ is that I thought I could add hundreds of people to a circle called "Chiptune Artists," thinking that I can check on that stream once in a while when I want some new music.... sort of like a mixed RSS feed of chip musicians.  But in reality that stream is full of pokemon comics and pictures of cats, just like every other circle I tried to organize by topic.

Nice.  What's the entrance fee? (the phillyjam site isn't loading for me)

This is so sick.  I love the shoegazy drums and chords on 90's Type Of Crush.  It reminds me of a, uh... 90's type of crush. heart

Venue Update: We have safely moved the venue to a new location. We just received the official notice that The Hexagon Space closed down 2 weeks before the big night. Thanks to our friends at The Hour Haus, we are moving to their location just a few blocks away.  http://bit.ly/lA0hwA

Is the new venue BYOB?

how much will philly hate crime me for preferring good provolone to cheezewhiz?

It's called provolone for a reason.  You've got to cut your teeth on the wiz before you move up to a sharper flavor.

Wait, I should have made that "moove up to a sharper flavor" to increase my pun-to-word ratio.

This is going to be awesome.  I'm really hoping this pans out to be a regular thing.  If you guys did every first Saturday of the month, that'd be a flat out EAST COAST CHIP MUSIC LOCKDOWN.

Speaking for Bear & Walrus: definitely interested.  We've been trying to play more Baltimore shows (since half of the band is based out of Baltimore) and do some kind of event at Hexagon forever but we don't know many chip people in the area.

I've had my Midines for like a million years and have never had any problems with it.  Within the past week the first pulse wave channel has been weird... randomly losing it's sustain and gaining a quick decay while playing.  I checked all the superfluous midi messages sent to it from my controller and they're clean... I really have no idea what's causing the problem.  It seems very random.

I use Ableon Live 8.1 to deal with everything MIDI.  When reloading my sets the weird quick-decay remains, so it seems like something that gets sent to the Midines via a CC message or something. Restarting the Midines in the middle of a Ableton set does not fix the problem.

I'm wondering: are there any CC values that would affect this?  I played with all of the instructions documented on Wayfar's site and I haven't encountered any automation that would cause it.  I have no idea what's going on, after the cart has been fine for years.

I'm really surprised that this thread doesn't have 1000+ comments already.  This show is going to be mind-blowing.
