even if you don't recognize every name, you should still go because it looks like a blast and maybe you'll find some new people you'll like.

-The default Midi channel assignments for Midines:
MIDI Channel 01 = Pulse 01
MIDI Channel 02 = Pulse 02
MIDI Channel 03 = Triangle
MIDI Channel 04 = Noise
MIDI Channel 05 = DMC (sample) channel
Can be changed, rather shifted - to respond to different Midi Channels using the UP / DOWN pad on Controller #1.
The on screen "channel" displays the current base channel.
This defaults to Midi Channel 01, which will be the current Midi Channel the Pulse 01 audio channel responds to.
If for example while Midines was in mode 2, (toggle with start button) and you pressed up twice the "channel" display would now read "channel 03".
This sets the Pulse 01 to respond to midi channel 03. Similarly the other audio channels will have been shifted up by 2.
-"channel 03" - Midi Channel Offset
MIDI Channel 03 = Pulse 01
MIDI Channel 04 = Pulse 02
MIDI Channel 05 = Triangle
MIDI Channel 06 = Noise
MIDI Channel 07 = DMC (sample) channel
Offset "a" is hex for decimal 10, "b" is 11.

Re: looking for help with music theory. (37 replies, posted in General Discussion)
i think maybe a 'fundamentals of chipmusic' manual something might be what you need. if anyone knows a good place for this. it would address the issues of chords and such. a lot of applying musical knowledge to this stuff means learning about the limitations of the hardware and either working around them (arps for example), or embracing them for what they are. there are a lot of compositional methods, you'll always be met with the same hardware limits though.
i could maybe make something like this to supplement my lsdj zine.

I clearly have underestimated my ability to hand-build these in a timely fashion given my life right now."
just saw that arfink posted this 3 months ago on youtube.

Re: Chip Touring Circuit(s) - How to organize? (41 replies, posted in Collaborations)
let me just add one other detail regarding touring...
i've gotten so many emails that are like "i'm going on tour in 2 weeks, can i play in rochester?" two weeks is nowhere near enough time for me to set something up for you. if you're doing a tour of a decent length, you've got to plan this months in advance.
on the flip side, i've also gotten emails that say "i'm going on tour in february of 2013, can i play in rochester?" i guess it's good that they're planning ahead but there's such a thing as too much advance notice. there's no way i can confirm a show that's happening next year because i have no idea what's going on that far in advance.
i'd say 3 to even 4 months is the best amount of time. but i've been able to hook stuff up on 2 months notice too.
possibly unrelated to the discussion, but i wanted to add it.

Re: Chip Touring Circuit(s) - How to organize? (41 replies, posted in Collaborations)
we're always looking for more people to book for our shows in rochester!
attendance drops during the summers since all the college people go home but during the rest of the year 50-100 people is pretty common.

Re: Popularity Contest (208 replies, posted in Bugs and Requests)
I want new music and I am not finding it the way this site currently is.
really though? i'm not asking this to be confrontational at all but how does the releases subforum not satisfy this? LOTS of albums, LOTS of bands/artists that i've never heard of before.
i'd actually be in favor of getting rid of the music section here altogether. with 8bc, you had a ton of people uploading works in progress, "my first lsdj" tracks, and generally a lot of stuff with a pretty low production value. if the emphasis on this site was just the releases section, it would kind of force people to take their stuff a little more seriously and generally up the professionalism a little?
not that there's anything wrong with sharing works in progress or "my first lsdj" tracks (i definitely posted my share on 8bc) but i'm just saying.

Re: Popularity Contest (208 replies, posted in Bugs and Requests)
the popularity contest aspect of 8bc was probably what i liked least about the site, to be honest. i kind of like that the focus here isn't on how many likes someone has, but on what they contribute to the community (their posts).
but i wouldn't protest a change here either. whatev!

Hey,
Can someone explain to me how this cartridge works to play gb games?
http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/ga -cartridgeThanks
you need to know how to flash eproms. if you don't know how to do that, then it'll just be a lot simpler to get a usb cartridge instead.

Re: do you feel bad when you hype a release (65 replies, posted in Constructive Criticism)
I promoted my release pretty hard and made a specific effort to keep bumping it, but only when I had ACTUAL CONTENT to accompany it. Example, I recorded a new remix, I posted reviews of the album, I posted YouTube vids of people playing my songs etc.
Was it obnoxious? Maybe. But it's a tough world out there and I wanted to make sure I got heard.
On the other hand, if someone releases something and I really like it... I love promoting it. Word of mouth buzz is the best advertisement.
couldn't agree more with both but definitely the first one. people like more content, people don't like shilling. make sure you have a reason to bump your thread.
