sent. go crazy.
regarding that diagram above, when i did my lsdj keyboard, it didn't work. so i just tried a few different combos and it worked eventually. if you're having trouble just experiment a little. i don't think there's any way you could really damage anything? am i right?
sure, feature me. my band is called revengineers.
Here's an idea for the next one of these. Initially, everyone is given the same challenge theme. Then people vote for their faves. The top 8 tracks are the people who then get entered into the bracket tournament. This way people have to prove they're able to participate in order to play.
aaaaand it's official! afterparty at 285 kent in brooklyn on monday may 28th! artists listed very soon!
i might have to extend my stay, damn.
um...... yes you can i remember back in the day exporting drum patterns out of reason's drummachine sequencer looking thing.
not multichannel midi's.
Nick can you make your own Roland SB-55 OPENSOURCE samplepack???
I am interested in!!!Roland Soundbrush sounds AWESOME!!! Very very cool!!! Listen!
Yuftubf here:

the sounds you're hearing are not coming from the sound brush. they are coming from the "SOUND CANVAS". they are two different devices meant to work together. the sound brush only sends midi info out, no audio. the sound canvas then generates the audio.

And people pay for this trash?
haha, it's great aside from that.
WTF Fruity Pops??? -> Renoise style is better...
RF1 MIDI TRACKER
http://www.rf1.net/software/mtBest MIDI Tracker on Windows!
There are Linux trackers too, for example this one:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fltracker/;o)
OR SIMPLY BUY ATARI1040STE FOR 20-50USD AS ROLAND WROTE ON THAT JAPANESE PRODUCT PAPER...
oh wow, i just downloaded this and i think it might be perfect!
i can't export from the trial version to see if it works with my hardware but it looks great. i'll play with this some more and probably will buy it tonight.
That's awesome!
There' GOT to be a way to do this with Reason, I can't believe that Reason wouldn't be willing to output a multi channel MIDI file.
But personally, I'd probably do this in music notation software, like Sibelius or Finale. They've got pretty robust MIDI export options. Doesn't help if you're not a) familiar with traditional notation and b) sitting on a few hundred spare dollars.
i've googled and googled and read the manual. everything gets smooshed into channel 1.
i went to college for classical music so a notation program like that would be rad, except for - would it let me program CC changes? and yeah, i lack hundreds of dollars.
Can you just record the output midi of reason into it like a tape deck?
Google found this:
you can't send midi info out of reason. i could maybe export each track individually and then record each track individually from some other program? that'd be such a pain though.
thanks for the link! i'll try that tonight.
i used cubase when we used a lot of midi, or maybe somthing cheaper like reaper might work?
a friend of mine swears by reaper so i will ask him about his midi experience with it.
i use FL studio to make midi files. it works well
FL studio does MIDI fantastically. Imports the score for each channel separately, as well as all CC automation (even if it doesn't do anything to the GM instrument). Exports any changes you make perfectly, too. Plus the sequencer is pretty neat, imo.
The only downside is that it does wacky things to the tempo when you change the time signature in the project settings (not MIDI) to something other than x/4. Give it a shot, I think the demo lets you import and export midi... maybe not export actually but have a go anyway!
my googling is showing me that FL studio might be worth trying. thanks!
sometimes i lose the desire to keep working on a song but that's not the same as writer's block. i don't think i believe writer's block exists with electronic programmed music. if you are trying to come up with a drum loop on some 16 step drum machine, i can't believe that a person wouldn't be able to make something cool sounding if they worked on it long enough, even if they had no drumming or musical experience at all.
writer's block is usually worker's block.
This might seem like a dumb question but bear with me...
I just bought this guy - http://www.denhaku.com/91/sb55s.jpg
You put midi files on floppy disks and it will play the midi files back over whatever devices you plug a midi cable to. So, I can use it to sync LSDJ to anything midi (drum machines, keyboards, whatever). Pretty excited about it.
Anyways, I figured I would just be able to use Reason to make these midi files. However, midi files exported from Reason do not work with this guy. Reason will condense multi channel midi files to just a single channel and if it plays at all, it sounds like crap.
I am curious what program you guys would use for this. Preferably something with a piano roll instead of notation. And something that will let me program CC stuff too!
Thanks for the help.
can we maybe get an extra day for this since i had absolutely no time today to work on anything?

Oh sheet.
Well, time to die. For me, that is.
