get the one from kitsch bent or nonfinite. those are both great.

might be interested in one. ill let you know!

yeah, it'd work awesome for your stuff. the program is a modified version of vegaplay so it's insanely easy to program stuff in famitracker and then create a new ROM for different sets of sounds. let me know!

check out a video of it here - revengineers@tumblr

My band typically plays along to pre-written LSDJ tunes but with the newer songs we've been working on there are a lot of sections where it doesn't make practical sense to use something pre-programmed, for example - sections where we jam a little bit and play it differently every time or where there are unusual tempo changes. So I turned an NES controller into a foot pedal.

I also modified No Carrier's Vegaplay code slightly to use with the pedal. Like I say in the video, his program allows you to press Up and Down to scroll through the tracks of an NSF file. I modified it so that way each button of the controller is associated with a specific track of the NSF. When you press UP, it plays the first track of the NSF. Pressing Down will trigger track 2, and so on.

Pretty basic mods but it's really useful.

If anyone wants one of these, I'll build it for $50. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

promotion is a weird topic. think about the most popular chip artists and the "promotion" that they do. most of their "promotion" consists of posting about their release/show on various websites (boards, facebook, twitter, blogs). and that's it. if your stuff is good, it will promote itself.

as far as getting booked on local shows is concerned, i have two pieces of advice. #1 - book your own shows. it's a lot easier than you think and it can be incredibly rewarding. there's a ton of awesome chip artists in the UK that i'm sure would love to play a new town. #2 - think of all the reasons a promoter wouldn't want to book you and literally list them out on a piece of paper. then deal with each thing on the list separately.

also, someone mentioned this earlier but it wasn't addressed - maybe your town is just too small? what are the nearby towns like? is there a  more active music scene somewhere else? if so, try getting a show there.

also, never burn bridges. it's really hard to be nice to people you hate but it's just something you have to do.

bumping this because it's only a few days away. i know most of the people on this board don't live near enough to come to the show, but i wanted to say how stoked i am for it.

either way i just want a lot of people to come see two amazing bands regardless of who wins.

right on. good luck with it. the contest aspect of it isn't something i'd ever try with my shows, but i'd be interested to see if it ends up working or not. i feel like if the band you vote for ended up losing, it would give me a reason to NOT go.

if i get the chance to set up another show for anamanaguchi here in rochester, you can play that one! smile

i'm all about trying new ways to promote shows. was this contest your idea / what do you think of it? it's a neat idea in theory but i'd love to hear how it works out in practice.

We just made a quick website to post stuff about the shows we've been putting on in Rochester. If you're a Tumblr user and want to follow it, that'd be rad. Eventually, we'll be posting videos and audio from the shows too!

"This isn't Chipmusic, and I'm sorry for that.  Deeply sorry."

Why are you deeply sorry?

ROCHESTER CHIP'S FIFTH SHOW!

REVENGINEERS - http://revengineers.tumblr.com/
local chip rock band, first show in three months!

THE SHORTSLEEVES - http://theshortsleeves.info/
awesome gameboy/keyboard duo, ffo: awesome fun jams

WALMART SUPERCENTER - ???
probably something with keyboards or circuit bent casio things or spacey synth stuff or some sort of home made electronic instruments stuff. possibly a podium.

come for the chip tunes, stay for the dancing. this show is going to be so much fun.

yeah, basically. the more diverse your lineup, the more people you expose to chip music for the first time, which is more people coming to your next shows. but also, it should be one of your goals to set up shows that are well attended. and if i booked a show here with all chip acts, it wouldn't go over well at all because 1. there's not 4 popular chip bands in rochester, 2. most of the out of town bands i book shows for don't have a local fanbase. usually the formula i try to use is this - 1 out of town chip band, 1 local electronic / chip band, 2 local non-chip bands. that way i can get the most people to a show as i can.

quick question.

i know you can export .bin files from famitracker, but how do you use that in your assembly code? is there a web page somewhere with a tutorial or code examples?
