mini master keyboard (E-MU, Edirol or something) + laptop + YM or NES VST = soundchip from game console controlled by keyboard.  I'm sure there are better ones than triforce these days but it's a start.

yeah if you want polyphony, using a laptop is the way to go.

i've actually never really used IRC before. what program do you use?

midi keyboard + arduinoboy + cart with MGB + DMG

or

midi keyboard + midines + nes

either way, it's going to be monophonic (except for one mode in MGB).

i've had problems with even really simple tables. in one song, the pulse channels both use the table 01 which only has a V01 command in it.

when the melodies get fast enough, the whole thing slows down.

but i'm thinking of switching to the gba sp as well. low-gain, do you notice much of a sound quality issue? i've read some places that say it sounds worse than a DMG and some places that say it sounds better.

- Powerpak for Game Boy

I know this was probably a joke, but a Game Boy cart that runs on an SD card instead of a programmer and battery powered RAM would be sweet as hell.

agree.

that's how i backup my my ems32 cart.

ok. After read this i've bought a Mega Memory Card and an USB Card.

And the trick doesn't work.

I backup my EMS saves in the MMC(=megamemorycard).. but when i plug the USB cart in MMC.. it gives me errors and ereases all the  backupped saves in his memory. why?

the trick works for me, when i can do it. my usb cart doesn't fit smoothly into the MMC. so, it's hard to make the transfer.

but it works for me, after a lot of trying.

i've seen people use this to play live. i've seen flash carts available on kitsch bent. i've only ever really used my DMG. just curious what's up.

That's very possible. Do some reading up on 6502 assembly and starting looking through the code, which is commented. When I have some time we can meet on IRC and I can show you how to do it.

Look at these books here: http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/books … Y_LANGUAGE

Specifically, this one: http://www.bombjack.org/commodore/books … e_6502.pdf

i'm about 30 pages in to that second link right now. thank you so much for posting it. i've been wanting to learn about this stuff for a while but didn't know how to start. very awesome.

i'll try to figure it out on my own for a while and then post back here with what i've figured out. thanks again!

i wanted to bump this to ask a question.

first of all, vegaplay is amazing. but i'm curious, is there a way to not have the songs play automatically? like, you have to hit A to make them play?

i have a project i'm doing now and this would be a perfect way to play the songs i have but i'd like to have a way to make the song stop, then choose another song, and then hit play, when the moment is right.

is there any way to do that with vegaplay or is there another solution anyone can recommend? thanks!

why does the midi guitar send out 6 different signals? one for each string?

it sounds to me like it's sending out stuff on channel 4, the noise channel. are there settings on your midi guitar that let you pick what midi channel you're on?

nickmaynard, hold Select then press B to have it transition to black, as when it started. Or if you want an immediate black, hold Start then press B. That's the initial state.

awesome.

My idea for the config is that you hold any button on the controller while resetting the NES. You do not want it coming up while doing a performance. That would ruin the mood. The settings will be saved in battery RAM, which I assume the PowerPak supports decently.

awesome!

seriously, this is very cool.

i think there should be a way to clear the screen. just have it go back to black, like how it is when it starts.

also, maybe when you 'pause' it, it could allow you to access the config screen, where you could load a new preset?

i am seriously loving this by the way.
