a "chaos" button would rule. everything goes apeshit then you hit it again and everything goes back to perfectly structured cubes.

could one of the buttons cycle through different shapes? like, right now it's all square but could it change from squares to glitch shapes, to little images, etc?

yes (except for the Sin and Sout as nitro said) however that would be very messy and require just as much dexterity and soldering skills as lowgains, simpler, cleaner, version of the same thing
just take your time, use flux, stop at a decent hour; and you should be fine
and how did you fuck the dmg-07 up? lowgains mod just calls for cutting absolutely everything off and bridging a few points, ium sure if your "fucked it up" its a super easy fix
i still don't know the terms for these things but when i was doing this step - http://www.flickr.com/photos/lameboymus 419956111/
the little metal rings came up and i didn't realize what they even were (i was just starting out) and so i yanked 'em off but with them came the wires that were connected to them. so with this specific dmg-07, i can't just do the mod as it's written on that tutorial. so, i'm trying to see how else i can do it.
i'll probably just go buy another since they're pretty cheap.

Re: "Sales figures" for chip releases? (178 replies, posted in General Discussion)
People should be free to charge for physical albums without ridicule, due to the time and expenses involved in mastering, cover design, and printing. And many people still buy and prefer buying a CD, because it is the most direct way of saying, "I love your stuff, I want to hear more in the future."
As far as digital downloads, Band Camp-style is the future for this. People can preview the entire album (or whatever portion you allow). Then, if someone has a serious connection or response to the music, they can download it and pay whatever they'd like (even $0), not for the bits of data, but for the enjoyment experienced and to directly support the artist.
And keep in mind, the chip community "free music" philosophy is about 5-10 years ahead of the rest of the world, or else iTunes would not earning $3.6 BILLION a year.
When I made my first album, the thing I heard the most was, "How can I buy this?" or "How can I buy the CD?" Of course, these are just regular people, not high-minded chip auteurs.
People like to support artists they really enjoy, and the biggest difference between chip and mainstream artists is, they can support you directly, and you can enhance their experience by being accessible. This is something of immense value that I think chip people overlook - there is a lot of value in being able to talk to your favorite chip artist on a forum, email, or Facebook. Who will a fan support more, some untouchable celeb or some guy they can drink with after a show?
100% agree.

Partially a response to justinthursday's comment on 8bc...
Do not just connect all cables with similar colors. What is SIN on one side is SOUT on the other. (Things com in on one side and out on the other.) Those are red or orange, and you don't know which is which for which side.
For the most basic splicing, try just connecting all Gnds (blue in official Nintendo cables) and clocks (green in official Nintendo cables). For that basic connection it makes no sense to connect anything else,
That should work fine for simple sync with one master and a few slaves. If you want support for the feature that LSDj starts playing on the same step as the master on all slaves, you need to work out the connections so that SOUT on the master goes to SIN on all the slaves. A multimeter is recommended for probing the red(orange wires for sin/sout.
thank you. this is definitely extremely helpful.
when i was first getting into "mods", i tried to do this but i fucked it up - http://www.flickr.com/photos/lameboymus 419956111/
that being said, the jacks are all still intact and the main wire is intact. it's just the board that's kind of a mess. anyways, i could just solder wires to the jacks themselves on this thing, right? it's the same principle.
i just don't know which pins are the GND, CLOCK, SERIAL IN, SERIAL OUT, etc.
could you help?

has anyone here done this?
i saw this page - http://wiki.littlesounddj.com/SyncingMo Boys?v=cwc
but i'm still kind of a noob as far as the tech is concerned.
let's say i have 2 gameboy link cables. i cut them in half. i now have four halves. i open them up and spread out the colored wires inside.
do i just connect all the similarly colored wires? is it just that simple? do i only need to worry about the GND, CLOCK, and SERIAL IN / OUT wires?
thanks for the help.

Time for repressing in Limited Edition vinyl. WooT!
i'd buy that.
go beyond making a great 4 channel gameboy song.. let go of the BS limitations and do something more with it. it's about the music, not the hardware/software.
while i understand and appreciate the sentiment of this, i disagree. people should make whatever is rewarding to them personally. if they love making 4 channel gameboy songs, then that's what they should do. if they like doing more than that or doing less, then they should do that. there's no right or wrong there.
So the market is saturated in shit IMHO, and when something really good comes down the pipe, it gets overlooked and only time will tell if it will get recognized for what it should be.
do you think that this is different in any other medium? could the same thing could be said about non-chip music, tv, film, etc?
But free downloads should never be considered in something like this.
And most people are too cheap these days to buy chip music. they just assume it should be free.. to which i say, "fuck that"
You pay for quality, and effort. both artist (investing in doing their record right) and consumer (buying a cd/record).
i've released albums online for free download and physical albums that cost money. the response is definitely VERY different. if you put your album up for free download, the message a lot of people get is that this album is not worth anything. in my experience, if you treat your product as some free handout then people will react to it like a free handout. if you treat your product as something valuable, unique, and worth buying, then people will react that way too.

You know... its been a while since I used it so I can't remember. I'm fairly certain it does lower pitch, but it is still effective for picking apart fast melodies etc. I'll pull it back out again sometime and record some samples. I didn't realize information about it was still so elusive!
awesome. i'll post something when i get mine too.

http://www.destructoid.com/the-super-ga 8081.phtml
this was made specifically to emulate the feel of the controls on a gameboy so when you played your gameboy games with your super gameboy adapter for SNES, you'd feel comfortable with the controls.
they describe one button as "SPEED-Y - Toggle between two gradations of the slow-motion feature".
if i was using LSDJ, do you think this button would adjust the tempo or pitch of the music when it was playing back?
