Yeah.  I tried to give a step by step process but I'm sure I could have explained it a bit better.  I tend to be pretty long winded when it comes to instruction or just posting in threads in general haha.  I've got plenty of ideas for future themes (PM me if anyone has any as well) and I'm actually really excited to see what people think of them, and of course, their respective entries.

Let me know if anyone has any questions as well as any names of programs that are similar to LSDJ as I'm all for broadening the amount of mediums for people to use for these.

That works!  Like I said…not really familiar with anything other than LSDJ and fami so if other mediums can follow the theme then feel free to use them!

I hope people aren't that lazy.

Tell me about it.

Yeah it's not really a big deal either way. Just figured I'd throw it out there just considering its an extra step for people to go through (however small but people can be lazy) to enter our competitions.

I really don't care either way about the anonymous thing.  Just pointing out how whenever we upload....it never actually is anonymous since it always shows who uploaded it.  But whatev...was just pointing it out.

And yeah I started a weekly famitracker / LSDJ challenge thread.  If I knew more about other mediums I would broaden the scope of it, but since I really only know LSDJ and Fami I figured I'd just start it with those for now since I'd be able to come up with fun challenges each week since I know the in's and out's of them.

After further review of this thread and the original link....

I'll be entering this one!  And don't forget about the Famitracker / LSDJ challenge!  In fact...pro tip...start the weekly challenge with the bi-weekly competition's theme in mind, complete said challenge, and then finish your song and upload it here!  I'm a genius!

EDIT: also...fuck this whole anonymous thing now lol...

A) it never is anonymous anyway
2) we're all pretty good about being honest....

thoughts?

Oh shit. I need to pick this up! Didn't realize Thrash City (easily one of my favorite chips) was part of a full release.

I'm pretty pumped.

The Chipmusic.org Weekly Challenge!

Here a theme will be chosen to limit the composers' room to breath and force them to write outside of their comfort zone.
The songs written will require little time, but much thought.

Challenges start on Mondays at 00:00 and end the following Monday at 00:00 (EST)
Voting lasts 5 days after the entry deadline

Current [Challenge#9]:ENTER!

    Previous [Challenge#8]:CLOSED!

The theme will be written using LSDJ terminology, techniques, etc. but you may use:
- LSDJ
- Famitracker
- MidiNES
- LGPT
- Milkytracker
- Modplug
- Any similar program (Let me know and I'll add it to the list.)

Spread the word.  I'm sure some of the tunes made following the criteria I've got in mind for the future will be pretty ridiculous and interesting to say the least!

I'll set that shit up tonight at some point then!

I think it'll start as just lsdj or famitracker for now and we"ll see how it goes from there.

I thought about creating little competitions as well along the lines of challenges.  I'm a huge fan of limiting myself during my composing since It's a great way to learn.  Unfortunately it may have to be specific to LSDJ as I'm not sure how many other mediums work haha.

Ex:

- Write a 1 minute tune using only wav and noise
- Write two very different 30 second tunes, then combine/alter them to make a coherent single tune.
- Write a tune without any notes sustaining more than 2 ticks in a phrase.  (would more or less sound like beepola)
- Write 1 minute tune, then swap the PU1 and Noise channel chains/phrases and create a new coherent tune with them.

Another somewhat unrelated challenge could be emulating a specific sound (ex: crackling fire, frog ribbit, certain spoken words, etc.) without the use of Kits.  Would just be a quick like...10 second file to upload and have other hear the combination of channels come together.  Much like the tiger growls and shit from Megaman.

Doing little challenges like this are almost like playing chess tatics (basically the chess game is started in an already developed board and you have a certain number of moves to checkmate in) and I find it to be fucking fun as hell.

Let me know what you guys think.  I'd be all about starting something like this on the side since it wouldn't take nearly as much time as this current competition.

Krylon x metals. Good luck. Make sure you post pics when it's done big_smile
