its been a long while sincee i used the 680, but il be grabbing it to try the editor so il definately try to get some of my old patches dug out, and give yours a try also.

Soooo... C S from UK, are you Cerebral Scars perchance? From up my neck of't woods? wink

Cool. I've only got 4/5 more days here then I won't see that Pss680 for a while. I'll quickly post some more patches and a tinker before I go.

Yeah, not quite - I'm from Newcastle Upon Tyne - pretty sure that's a bit further up north than Yorkshire? tongue

Have you tried new batteries? Also is the cartridge a game or a EMS/Flash cart?

Had an issue like yours when I put a blank cartridge in, the bar would show though nothing afterwards.

When your batteries run low esp on a backlight Gameboy - the same thing can also occur with bar showing then it going blank afterwards.

EDIT:- Grammar

Found image sources - It's okay

Edit:- Dial up internet, grammar

Found this neat GB cartridge holder to neatly keep all your cartridges in place.  If you get a packet ‘Arnots Timtams chocolate biscuits’, the plastic casing also precisely fits the size of a GB cartridge and case itself. It can fit up to 9-11 Cartridges.

You can definitely get these in NZ, possibly the AU too. Not sure about elsewhere across the globe?

its awesome 2 op fm synthesizer IMO. its unusual in that you must start with the voice presets to set the synthesizer into various operator algorithms
before you hit the synth editing. If you dont know this, youre probably missing over half the power of the unit. Great for bells, fm basses and whatnot.

The pads on mine are not triggering anymore, which is a shame, I nver got to use the drum sequencing elements of the 680, but I can imagine its fairly cool. (not as fun as "sequencing" on a casio sk5 or 100 though)

Id love to get this AtariST PSS680 editor on the go.
any one got the ability to create Atari floppies easily and mail me one for some pennies? Pleeease big_smile

Yeah definitely it can create some really nice sounds. If you turn the decay up and portamento on you can create some neat pops/squeaks and kick drum sounds too. Adjusting the Attack and frequencies too can create some really neat FM basses

Here's an example of some sounds  I found out:-

A phat Bass:-
0.31
1.13
2.22
3.33
4.01
5.00
6.05
7.99
8.99

(Reverb and or Stereo Chorus effects are nice in addition to this sound)

Percussion/Drums:-
0.00
1.48
2.63
3.45
4.03
5.00
6.03
7.34
8.99

(Portamento got be on so the notes slide between varying pitches)

Hello all! So im very new to this website and fairly new to the music scene and i was wondering what kind of music experience do you have? Im only 16 and ive only just started piano classes, thats it. Because of that im pretty inexperienced and lets face it, bad. So the rest of you better people, where do you get your experience?

Hey, welcome. How did you hear about this music scene?

Everyone starts somewhere. Whenever you're very unexperienced and only know a few notes/chords or either very experienced and know to play full a composition or a professional producer. As long as you're enjoying the process of it and what you've learnt so far the piano is the most important part I think.

A lot of new people can sometimes ask A) what kind of program they should use and B) what style of 'sound' they want to make. Though I wouldn't worry so much about those at the moment:- A) There's a whole range of programs and consoles you can look at to create music with, which I'm pretty sure some of this has also been covered aimed at new people getting involved with this scene. B) Although you say your unexperienced, your own sound will develop and progress naturally at your own pace.

Personally myself:- I started at my last year of primary school learning Guitar though kept with it and later learnt piano mostly by myself with a few lessons at college. Got into music sequencing at high school then found out about this scene when myspace was frequent. To this day I'm still constantly learning something new about music.

Also definitely found learning another instrument and music theory helpful when composing on another medium or instrument.

Hey — I can speak to this to some extent. Sorry A: for any confusion, and more importantly, B: if 8bitpeoples' demo policy sends the wrong message. I can understand how it might.

We manage 8bitpeoples in our spare time — spare time that's shared with our other projects & commitments and all that — and over the years we've just found that open submissions just didn't really make sense for the scale at which we operate, or for the relatively modest amount of time we allocate to the label. In the past when we've tried it, we always ended up with a logjam of stuff waiting to be listened to, which pissed off submitters and made us feel like jerks. It was never a deluge, but it was enough to require more attention than two dudes running a netlabel for fun were really able or willing to commit to.

So even though I think open submissions are a great idea, and even though by opting not to have them, we've probably missed out on great acts we didn't previously know about — we've just found that approaching the artists we encounter or discover as fans/enthusiasts ourselves has been a more natural fit for the scale & pace of the label. It's not a perfect strategy, but it's a decent balance (and I think probably not so different from the way most labels do things). Anyway I hope this makes some sense and I hope this humanizes what may otherwise inadvertently come across like some sort of stony silence or indifference to talent.

Cool, thanks for the info. Honestly had no idea only two people ran the label in their spare time.

Is anyone in contact with Square sounds? Could someone let them know that I'd interested and up for the 30 minute open mic set?

I'm in this really small town atm where no wifi exists. There's dial up internet though this computer isn't able to even open outlook or Facebook itself. There is a library though it's not going to be open tomorrow as it's new year. If not I'll try sending them an email when I can get proper access to wifi or the internet

Thanks, are you based in Australia yourself?

square sounds is on march 20th n 21st, but there should be an open mic/pre-party on the 19th and a chilled out afterparty on the 22nd

Sweet! cheers for the info. I'll definitely come to this. Is there a link to sign up for the Open mic?  How long do you reckon they'll want sets to be at the open mic?

Cool thanks. Just wondered if you did use an Atari to alter the settings could you technically call it Atari music since you used an Atari in the process?

Unfortunately I'm using a mac otherwise that could've worked unless there's something for mac?

What kind of sounds did you create? Was it able to alter the settings even more than on the front panel?

Read a lot of mixed reviews varying from good and bad about the keyboard. Just curious, what's your take on it?

Not trying to be mean, but they have their hands full enough !

Haha no worries, noticed they've had that demo-policy link for years. Couldn't help notice releases still get put through it though.

Always wondered what kind of process they go through. I bet it has to be that you've got to know someone inside or as Teomawki said earlier be contacted by them.

EDIT:-Grammar

Does anyone know how to contact 8bitpeoples?

Got some artwork and example of tracks I'd like to send privately as a proposal/demo though there's little contact details available and I'm not in contact with anyone who used to be part of it so I thought I'd ask here instead.

Thanks.

Were you or anyone able to back it up on mac? I tried though couldn't get it to work.

cool! will you be able to make it to square sounds festival?
also it's not really chip, but ctrix and i will be playing live acid tech at a party in sydney on april 11 if that suits your itinerary. if not we might just have to set something up that suits!

e: happy to help you with backups, although i'm sure there's a plethora of people who can help with that sooner in melbourne

When is it again? it should be possible. Sounds nice.
