I would just get another instrument to use a performance synth though, and let one instance of mgb be dedicated as the SEQUENCER INSTRUMENT though.

You can avoid it by simply not using channel 5. and programing the other 4 channels monophonicly. You can do a complicated split as you describe using midi rules plugin like:
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10541/midipipe
or
http://www.midiox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB
1050360173
So you can have midi notes above say c3 go to midi channel 1+2, and notes below go to only channel 3. You can make a complicated note allocation rule that decides how note stealing goes as well. I would toggle between rules that PLAY ALL NOTES and ones that play ONLY THIS CHANNEL that can be changed on a song by song basis.

Why would I have to ignore that? Im just saying that a chiptune off a paula dac versus one off a consumer dac has a different sound. Perhaps we should go back in time and just tell those demosceners to call it WAVETABLE SYNTHESIS instead.

If its good enough for:

Its good enough for me. Your artistic identity is not some sort of covenant with your consumers. Do what you want.

Yea but you can also make the argument that the DAC of the paula has a certain mojo that say a usb sound card running renoise doesnt.

Yea for all intents and purposes, gb and gba are different beasts, so a new program would need to happen. Modding the GBA should be much more trivial.

All the reasons you all have listed is why I love/use my gameboy color so much. Is there really that much difference in running a dmg music prog on gba vs gbc?
I kinda hate the screen on gbc, and the even the prosounded sound is not that great to me. Battery life rules though. Ive done sounds that strangle a dmg, suffer on a gbc and work fine on a gba.
