Try it on an unmodded gameboy. I have one from a modder that freaks out whenever i use an aboy with it.

Well you can get a usb cart, and then use a mega memory card to copy a save from the old cart to the new cart, and then save that onto a computer.
You should probably just get a mega memory anyways in the meantime as they are cheap. Record your songs first though!
