Discount Fireworks - Squares (Album)

This release collects the first three Discount Fireworks EPs. Squares is an exploration in simple, looping music with the use of just one sample sound and a delay module to create fifteen short introspective pieces. It's part of a series of releases written within a limited time frame and then released for free/donation online.

I've contributed information on the Scottish side of things. Thanks for putting up this site. It's a great idea.

I always have the groove in the wave channel running at 3/3 with all of the other columns at 6/6. It means you can still do kick/bass in the same channel, but you have more room between the kicks for more complex basslines.

Thanks to Andy Baio, that house is just about to get its 73rd room.

I've been looking for a copy of this. If you have one and you'd be up for selling it, drop me a PM.
Thanks.

You can use this homebrew application for turning your Game Boy into a Kindle (or sort of, anyway). You can convert any text into a program for a GB cartridge. I'd love to see this hooked up with NeX's GB video out mod and used with a projector at a show, possibly telling some sort of story that goes with the music being played.

The idea of using buildings as an EQ is really cool, I'd have liked it more if there were more buildings.
Nice work!

The science reference could be taken out completely, it's irrelevant. The dig at 8bc was long, drawn out and unnecessary. It took you 300 words to mention the artist on a blog that I'd imagine is going to be mostly read by chip-fans. You seem to focus on chiptunes being "hard", but I'd imagine the time learning any other instrument isn't taken into consideration when reviewing bands with guitars and such. I also thought the "funny" images dragged down the quality of what you were saying at times.

What I didn't like though particularly was singling an artist out for being bad somewhere in the middle. You say on one hand that chiptune is hard and you want to champion underrated artists, then you have a bit of a go at someone learning for themselves (on emulator, not on hardware, btw).

You've written 1558 words here, I feel that this (given the amount of irrelevant information) is too long. I'd rather be recommended an artist for every 500 words. Cut out the images, the chipmusic artists are hard-done-to references and just write about the artist and their music.

Good on you stepping up and giving this chipmusic blog a go, but these are the things I'd do to make it a bit more readable.

Also, the Last.fm might not be theirs, as there is a band in Australia going by that name (and another that used to go by Sputnik Sweetheart, but are now called Super Mirage). The Australian band just played a show last month in Brisbane - http://www.songkick.com/artists/4318346 … weethearts

I've sent off messages to the people on Discogs that contributed information about newfuturelofimusic releases. Will let you know if I get any replies.

Rather than 5 songs, I say you do a Seinfeld themed EP and write theme songs for:

1. Jerry
2. George
3. Elaine
4. Kramer

Maybe 5. can be the Seinfeld theme or something.

Just to clarify my position on this, I fully support this idea and the use of Kickstarter for projects like this. If people want to pay for your music and idea, that's great. If it encourages you to make even more, superb.

I'm not quite sure what jbuonacc's problem is, musicians have and will continue to use the money from advance sales from sales in general to purchase musical equipment. I'd say the project has already been successful in that people believe in it enough to pay upfront for it, and I don't have a problem with anyone benefitting from their own hard work and perseverance.
